The land of almost right

I bought an alternator and included bracket to convert my M to 12 volt and electronic ignition. I bought the electronic conversion kit from this sight even though it was a little more expensive than other places. The alternator for my tractor YT did not have. I ordered from DB Electrical. The bracket was the problem. It should have been a quick and fast installation. The holes were off where the bracket bolted to the head. I filled the holes in and re drilled to fit. The U shaped piece welded to the bracket that holds the alternator was put on crooked and the holes were off. I re-manufactured that part of the bracket and re welded. The part of the bracket that holds the adjustment arm was crooked. I ground it off and re welded. It took me three of four hours of piddling to get the whole bracket correct. This is the worst case of almost right I have ever seen. I would caution against ordering from DB Electrical, but lots of internet sites sell the same alternator and bracket. Ellis

That's unfortunate. I've bought from DB Electrical and was satisfied with the purchase.

T hats why I make my own bracket use the Hitachi gen for 55 an then use the original belt. Fits under the hood great

I have purchased from DB Electrical multiple time and never had a problem, but I have never purchased a bracket for alternator either. I always roll my own.

I have used a really long bolt and a piece of pipe cut to length as an adapter.
Even use a few flat washers.:)

Go to a home center or farm store and buy a piece of strap iron and bend and drill to fit in less time than rework takes.

I always get the double pulley on the alternators makes lining up a whole lot easier sometimes,if the double pulley is in the way I just switch out to a single pulley and keep the double for future use.Have dealt with DB a lot and they have always bee great to deal with.

I use the original bracket -- flip it upside down and put it back on-- then I use a mini alt.that I get off of ebay -- 12 volt one wire -- might need a spacer to line it up and use the same belt-- might need to change the tightner bracket a bit -- never had one fail yet -- Roy --- PS - they fit under the hood real nice too !

Doing OK. Should be better but could be worse! Snowing today & tonight with wind & blizzard conditions tomorrow. Then cold on Sun.
