JD Brake Linings

My suspicions were correct. The brake linings were totally gone in the 5205 I just bought. Old one on bottom, New on top.

If you recall he sold it to me dirt cheap because he was tired of cleaning hydraulic screen.

Remember to soak them in the hydraulic fluid that you are going to use in the tractor. BTW, they look just like CIH linings used in 74,85, and 95 series tractors. Mark.

Leave the self adjusters out...they drag very bad,,to where you can't push one by hand in the shop..

The age old 303 debate. When was a 5205 built? 2000-2007? It looks like Smitty's (produces/packages the Super S oil) doesn't even recommend their 303 oil for a machine of that vintage. They recommend their oil meeting the current J20C spec for machines after 1974. Just saying.

You have the right idea. I would bet that incorrect hydraulic oil is the reason the brakes disintegrated as I mentioned in your original post about this tractor. You got one heck of a good deal on a good tractor.

I?m guessing that and the fact that the hydraulic fill cap is on top above PTO on a flat spot and the o-ring was missing from cap!

I?ve used the yellow Pail to 40 below zero
Fahrenheit it takes a minute to get going but so
does anything at the temp except the low viscosity
oils

IMHO, it's FAR more likely that the linings came apart due to moisture in the oil than "the wrong oil".
