FINALLY got overhead door install in pole barn. 12x10 insulated.
I asked the installer if he sells openers?
He recommended an opener that mounts to the wall and connects to the shaft the torsion springs attach to.

Does anyone have an opener that connects to the shaft?
Any recommendation?

No ID what brand he sells.

The guy who installed door has a garage door business. So I'm going to take his recommendation. Before he got into business for himself, he worked for 2 other businesses.

Got them on all the doors at the shop, I've put in a couple more on home garages.

They work very well, just be sure the tracks have some up hill incline. The door has to have some downward force on the cables at all times, otherwise they will come off the spools.

That type opener comes in real handy when there is limited ceiling clearance above the door.

I have one for the big garage door on my shouse but have not finished installing it yet. I know two close friends that have them and swear by them. I?m told the solution to the down pressure is springs on the upper end of your track. I ordered both springs off amazon for something like $15. Hope that helps.

George I am following your progress with the building. I plan to throw up a pole shed next summer but I am undecided about doors.

I have a torsion bar opener on my 7x16 garage door. Works like a dream and is quiet. This opener is a soft start and stop to keep the torsion cable from going slack. It is a Raynor if that means anything.

It could be an advantage to have buy both the door and the opener from the same place. If they install it and there are any problems the one seller is responsible to make it all work together.

The guys over at the Garage Journal forum recommend the Liftmaster 8500. Try reading some of their reviews/comments about that unit. (I don't have any experience with it)

I have one on one of my home garage doors. It works really well and is much quieter than my other garage door. It's called a jackshaft opener.
