Diode for electrical system

One of my Kubota tractors only has wiring necessary to start, run, and operate. No key switch or etc. only start button to start it and a kill cable to kill it. I
want to put an hour meter on it to help with regular service intervals but with no key switch, I have to be careful how I hook it up so it doesn't run all the
time. I was planning to run 2 wires from the one-wire alternator, one to the hour meter, and the other to the battery for charging (with the diode in it).
This will run the meter only when the tractor is running. Is this diode some of you have used heavy enough to put in the wire from my one-wire
alternator to the battery to prevent back feeding the hour meter? If so, where did you get it? Part number?

No, it would take a very large rectifier to do what you are describing, trouble waiting to happen.

Is this a Delco 10SI one wire alternator?

If so pry the rubber plug out where the wire harness would normally be, get a test light and check the #1 terminal with a test light. Be careful not to short it to the case.

See if that terminal makes 12v when the alternator is spinning up to charging speed. If so, you can power the hour meter of that.

If it's another type alternator, try checking any terminals the same way. Look for anything marked s or stator.

If that doesn't pan out, you can use a 2 pole normally open oil pressure switch. Be sure it has British pipe threads.

I thought a one wire already had a diode in it to stop reverse flow. if that's correct then just put your meter in the wire from your alternator.

he others are valid suggestions, with oil pressure switch being a common method on diesel tractors, but not pinball's as not the way 10SI works

That is the same wire that charges my battery. It will back feed from the battery and run all time. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

It is the small alternator that came on the tractor. I had it converted to 1wire. It may have the plug over the terminals like you say. I'll check. Thx

I'm going to check it per what Steve suggested first. If it's not set up that way, what you suggested should work fine. Thx
