A friend wants me to Oh his 4440. Spun a bearing, locked up the motor. Said the oil pressure went to zero,it had been running low on pressure. Said the tractor had previously not been using any oil.So it's going to be complete out of frame. Really don't want the job. Just being lazy,I guess.

I will welcome that job week after week here... there is a strong chance the cam/oil pump gear failed if it is an early 4440..

Years ago I hauled a 4440 for a guy after he bought it. I knew he was wanting to have it overhauled but we took it to his place. I was sort of bummed he did not let me get my hands on it ! I asked him about it later, maybe to see if he needed it done or had it done ? Turned out he took it to a dealer. They found all sorts of issues with it and it ended up with some issue and needed a new balancer on it. It may of had the wrong one on it ? Anyhow after hearing about these issues I was glad he did not have me work on it !
I have since learned how to say NO to most of this stuff. Many times it is just not worth all the extra aggravations.

If it needs a crank thats going to be an expensive OH..Nice 4440's
sure being the big bucks on farm sales..

I have learned over the years that when you have a feeling you don?t want to take on a certain job but can?t really explain why there?s usually a good reason in the back of your mind and sometimes it is best to say ?no?. This is a lesson learned by ignoring the uneasy feeling in your mind and not saying ?no? way too many times .
