Moving JD 550G dozer from West Virginia to Tenn., 545 miles. Hmh Logistics llc. Summerville SC made a low bid of $1400 with no down payment. Know if they're a dependable company? Seems awful cheap when the next low bid was $2000 from other companies. Lots of glowing reviews & a few really terrible reviews, almost like the guy was writing his own good reviews. Thought someone here might have some experience.

For another 600 I?d take the guy with better reviews by the time that low baller gets some screwing around he?ll end up costing you more anyway on top of the ulcer your liable to get before it?s all over with . When I see a lot of bad reviews I look through them to see if they all are a long the same lines

I hate doing that. Bought a piece of equipment . Paid for it. Hired it hauled. Guy was late. Thinking he swiped my load. I hate it. Be careful and good luck.

Never heard of them so know nothing about them first hand.

BUT.....

Know that no down payment does not mean you pay on delivery.
For some once the driver is dispatched it is a active load and payment will be needed.

From a google search Hmh Logistics llc. Summerville SC is not a trucking company.
They are a broker.
Means they will offer your load on the open market and give it to anyone that will haul the load for their price.
Often this is someone looking for a back haul.

And they are a broker business with no store front being run out of a house.

So the bad reviews could be coming from HMH or they could be coming from the trucking company that picked up that one load.
Most people do not know how to defenciate between the two different parties.

The low bid could very well be the guy is going to be running mty anyway from another load he already has and can justify hauling it cheap as opposed to running mty. Just saying and I know I would be worried about it too until it as unloaded at the destination.

I know. Following guy hauling my CAT D6H LGP & lost rack of'm 400 miles from home. Went home & he came couple of hours later. Whew! Back before the days of cell phones.

All his bad reviews said he never did the job in the first place. Great reviews on the jobs he supposedly did.

There you go.
He is a broker.
He under bid the job and was unable to find a trucker to do the job for the quoted price.
For that price to haul that size and weight; most likely a permit load if the blade is still on it; that is a back haul only load.
If you got time to waste in case the load does not get picked up I say give it a shot.

Who gave you the $2000 quote.
A trucker or another broker???

That's why I prefer to deal with owner-operators.

Too many brokers like to play games like that. They'll roll the dice hoping they can find someone to take the load, and if they can't, oh well. Worse is they'll find someone, the driver will show up, take one look, and "Not enough money." The broker isn't going to pony up and cover the difference. You either cough up the extra or start over with someone else.

Someone gave me this line of BS that brokers are trying to drum up repeat business... Some may well be, but there are a lot of fish in the sea and you only need to sucker them once. It's VERY easy to change business names too, so once you pi$$ off enough people, you just change your name and start over.

HMH was one of 3 bidders. The broker was FR8Star, so a broker is using a broker? Blade is still on it. Got plenty of time for the delivery, anytime between now & April. You're right, payment is wanted after I receive the invoice for the load, before delivery. Payment to be made to Quickbooks, whatever that is. Can pay by credit card + 4%. Wish I knew how to copy the email he (Craig Huffman) sent me with the details. If I pay him & he doesn't deliver how do I get my money back? Thanks for your details in your post above; appreciate the time & trouble to look all that up & post it.

Ohio co. bid $2000. Kentucky co. bid $1900. Don't know if brokers or truckers. Info on FR8Star taken down about company histories after I accepted the Hmh bid.I'm not bound by the bid until I reply to Hmh emailed instructions wanting pickup & delivery addresses, dozer serial number & value etc.

Why not check with your local JD dealer, and other local dealers as well as local construction companies and see if they have recommendations? You might pay a bit more than a low bid you find on the net, but you would be dealing with a known outfit.
