Onan / miller update

After a little investigation I found out the screws that hold the top of the carburetor on were stripped out I guess that?s what 50 years of vibration will do for yuh . Went to town and got a little larger screw and ran them down tight . The ol girl runs like a top after I fixed that . Now if I can find some quieter mufflers for her

Nice, simple fix. Those are the best.
We talked about those Miller AEADs last year. Mine was missing the tank. I used it for a temporary tank on my 4000 and it fell off and I ran over it. Both me and the tank felt crushed.
I bought another AEAD at a county auction for $65 last summer, just for the tank. Engune runs good and it makes 110/220 but won't weld. Last week a friend in NE told me he parted one out. Did I want the tank? Free except for shipping.
Yes I did!
Now I have two of them.
I wish Billy Shafer lived closer. Maybe he could make the second one weld. Otherwise, I have parts now.
Those are great small welders. Mine must have close to 2000 hours on it. Had a couple hundred when I bought it in 1981. I put a new short block in it once.

Remember mr John close on here ? He helped me fix this old aead last year mine would do the same thing it would make power but wouldn?t weld . He told me to take the side shields off and then he sent me special stones to clean up the commutator rings inside the welder and by golly it fixed it right up ! So in the spirit of the late carvel Minnie farmer i will send you this stone I have left If you send me you address . I?m sure I made a post about cleaning up the insides I?ll look for it

I bought a year old like new go-cart for grandkids. Got it cheap. 6.5 hp robin/subru wouldn't idle right.
The two nuts holding the carb in place had vibrated lose. It runs like a top. A 10 year old could start it. Grandkids have out grown the go-cart.

SV, I have a muffler for an Onan engine. It was on a 225 Miller Bobcat with a 16 HP engine. Muffler is very good. $30 + shipping. If you are interested, let me know. 903-863-2228

I found your old posts with Carvel Mini about using the commutator stones. Just that much info is a help. Looks like those stones are readily available for $5-6 so I will get one and try it. Once it warms up again - April?
Thanks for the info. Is John Close no longer with us? It's always a shame to lose that kind of knowledge.

I had a CCK generator brought to me about five years ago. He was told it was junk and he needed to buy a new unit.I did a tune up,oil change cleaned the slip rings. Fired it up set the speed and voltage. He still has it today. It is a 1964 model still going strong. The CCK was the best thing Onan ever made.

Keeping the slip rings clean and the brushes. Free in the guides is very important.A stuk brush turns into a cutting brush. Will destroy the rings. The stone is the best way to clean the rings. You can use other things. But never use anything with metal in it.

The old Onans. Were some of the best ever built. I have a 1932 model still going strong. That all went away when Cummins bought Onan. Now if you can get 1500 hours on one. You are lucky

I forgot to add. When using the stone. Just let it ride on the ring. You don't have to press very hard. No danger of getting shocked. Just be careful of moving parts.

Well for a free meal and a bed. I could make the trip. Might take me a few months. With my health. But I will get their. Maybe.

Thank you for your replys Billy.
I will follow your advice.
It would be fun to travel around and meet some of the people here wouldn't it? Happy New Year to you. And SVC too.
Jerry

Forgot to add
Their is three types of mufflers
Pepper pot standard
RV type
Then there is the hospital grade. But they cost more than most are willing to spend.$$$$

Where do I find information on these mufflers and cost ? These aren?t very large in diameter. I could rig a couple 4020 mufflers up on it I?d bet that would quite it right down
