Cylinder Kit Help

My brother and I fabbed up a hydraulic boom for the back of our tractors with odds and ends around the farm. About 99% is stuff that was
laying around.

The cylinder we believe is off of an old IH33 loader and is a one-way. It will need new seals and I am having a hard time tracking them
down. Does anybody have any leads possibly someplace that I can order them from the internet?
The cylinder rod is 39.5" long and approx 1.5" diameter.

Thanks!

Surplus Center may be a source, or CaseIH, I think (if those are leather) that you will find them on line searching for leather cup hydraulic seals with their ID and OD.
On a different topic I see a boat wench and cable on the top ov your boom. It is not a good idea to use that unless the only way it is used is to keep the boom and 3 point stationary and use the crank to do all lifting. The cable and mechanism are way too weak to allow hydraulics to be used with them and could result in serious injury. (I am crane and lift rated by OSHA for human overhead lifting) OSHA would have you remove it before use. A snapped cable could reach the operator with disastrous consequences. Jim

The winch is from an old auger and is not for lifting. It is for pulling horizontally on things I cant get the tractor close to and I dont intend to use it much. There is a welded hook on the end of the tube for lifting. You can see this hook rather clearly in the last picture.

Thank you for the information on the leather seals.

I definitely understand the intended use. I also know human nature and someone other than you might just use it incorrectly. I just couldn't resist the safety warning. Jim

Unless you have a good hydraulic shop locally, go to the Baum Hydraulics website, you can download and view their catalog section by section.

If you can't find exactly what you need give 'em a call. They have a number of knowledgeable folks on staff that should be abe to help you with the seals you need, by type and dimension.

I have a swing boom on the back corner of my pickup truck bed that swings 360 degrees and it has a boat type winch on it. It also lifts like yours does by way of a hyd jack. I have used it to lifting plows etc. onto the bed of the truck. Also comes in handy for field dressing deer when some one get one

The piston seals look like leather but are now replace by NeoFab and rod is proably Vee packing. Looks like pretty standard parts.

Seals will be available at any decent hydraulic shop, but you will need to take apart, identify and measure each one, so might be best to just take nut off piston, pull piston off and rod gland as there will be seals, wiper, and if your lucky a plain bearing of some sort inside it that most likely needs replaced or your new piston seal may leak from too much side to side movement, then just take to your local hydraulic shop and have them measure up and supply new for u to put back together?? Anyway I am sure you will figure that out. I just wanted to point out a couple things:#1 By what I can see in pictures the style of cylinder you have could be used for single acting or double acting, It probably has a vent/filter of some kind on cap/top end port.
#2 the big problem with this cylinder being used for single acting is every time rod retracts it sucks in moisture, and some degree of contaminant, eventually rusting/pitting rod and more critical the cylinder bore which makes it difficult to get a good seal between piston cup and bore.
Not wanting to discourage you, and maybe yours is fine, but before you bother with new seals take a good look inside bore.
A better ( in some ways) single acting cylinder has no piston seal per say. It just has a large rod inside a relatively small cylinder and force is based on the area of the rod. This means cylinder has no vent and always has oil in it even when retracted. You can usually find one of these cylinders at tractor wrecker easily id'd by one port into cylinder. Just make sure rod is in good shape, and worst case scenario you need a seal kit for rod gland. ( or go buy a new cylinder at harbour freight or princess auto?)
