Increadable trash picking.

Heading to work this afternoon and stopped at the gas station is an industrial
truck with a trailer full of scrap. Well I got turned around a mile down the
road and came back for a photo of this poor old Chalmers. Snapped a couple of
photos and noticed something poking out from under the smashed hood. An FM
MAG!!! Parked the truck, grabbed a couple of tools and the guy was coming out
of the snack shop. Asked if I could grab a part and he says"you can have the
whole thing for $100.oo." I tell him I have no place to put it. Five minutes
latter it is in the back of my truck. I stuck a 5 under his wiper blade. It is
not stuck but I am guessing it would be a good idea to get it rebuilt.
Everything looks original.

I am one 1/8 inch pipe nipple away from having that free compressor going. Right now I have all of $18.56 in it and includes a new quick connect fitting both male and female. So once I get the 1/8 pipe nipple I'll have maybe $20 in it

I have to ignore the scrap guys I see stopped. When scrap was high,I saw a friend with a load in the gas station. It was all Model A Ford stuff.Engines, transmissions, rear and front ends, frames, all A.He was doing a cleanup of an estate, and the owner had saved Model A stuff from wartime up through the late 70's.I looked at the load,he said he knew about what it weighed when he let the clutch out and offered me the load for $1500.I thought about it,and turned him down.He really was making me a good offer, the load brought $1800.over the scales. He hauled seven loads out of that barn.He did bring me a Gibson tractor with some attachments, and sold it to me for a little less than scrap price.Right now scrap is less than 1/4 of what it was back then.It was $365.pet ton then,it was $78.last Friday.

You are fortunate. Scrap here is about $50 per ton. I take small amounts in from time to time just to keep things a little more tidy around the place. It is in the book "If Momma ain't happy nobody is happy".

I know a family that built a big lake on the farm using all old equipment they picked up cheap. Cat D8's and such. When scrap was high they called someone else I know with a truck and trailer to take them for scrap. Started them up loaded them on and drove them off at the scrapyard.

Reporting in to YT HEADQUARTERS ...... reporting in .... load spotted, no straps, miscellaneous junk ..... apprehend driver immediately !!!

I have no idea, just glad I snagged it and made it to work with 5 minutes to spare. A little piece of this poor old tractor will live again!!!!

In front of my shop, I saw a load of 350 engines going to scrap. I sent one of the guys over to talk to him and offer $10 for the taking off of each starter. The hauler told him that he never sold a starter for less than $20, so all starters went for scrap price. I keep all starters and Delco Remy alternators.

OK Jeff, I thought those were just some old chains thrown over the load going to the scrap yard. But you're right, but I just need glasses .... not new glasses. I stand corrected, and I'm glad to see that Al is still reading my posts anyways.

I took in a light load yesterday as well, got $80 per gross ton (2200lbs). Not too many people interested in a 30-year-old washer and dryer, both needing repair. I just don't need the extra two projects, so off they went, with broken fence posts and some scrap shelving supports I haven't used in 19 years, but will need tomorrow. I even organized the metal storage area and tossed a few chunks of stuff I'll be regretting soon. Most of it was surplus school desks from my Wife's school, most broken and repaired a few times already.
