Christmas Eve 1970

We were in Athens Greece. Ship was all decked out in lights. Had a very good meal. Even had fresh milk and real
eggs for breakfast.

Of the four years I was in the Navy. I was able to be home for Christmas three times. The last year 67 in Iwakuni Japan it was holiday routine. To us it meant holiday for the officers, and routine for the enlisted. The CO decided it would be nice for us to work Christmas Day. I don't think much got done in the shop that day. Stan

Returned "to" or 'from"? I spent Christmas Eve 1971 in Nam, back home in August of 72. Saw the Bob Hope USO show in Da Nang. Then back to the firebase.

Of the ten years I spent in the Marine Corps, I was home for Christmas once.

Can't really remember where all I was, but I know I spent one deployed to a Nationalist Chinese Air Force Base on Taiwan. I don't remember the Christmas, but I'll never forget the New Year's Eve.

The officers and Staff NCO's from our unit were invited to a New Years Eve party at the Nationalist Chinese Air Force Officer's Club in Ping Tung. The Chinese celebrate New Years with fireworks, and there were so many fireworks going off right in the club that they had to stop the dance several times to sweep the debris from fireworks off of the dance floor.

At one point, I went a block or two down the street to reload on fireworks, and from a block away it sounded like there was a full scale firefight going on in the club.

I was already in country at Meito/Canto I don't remember how to spell them anymore, I guess it's because I wanted to forget them when I left there. We had a zapper attack 1 week later on New years Eve. I had forgotten about it till I read your post. I remember the longhorn cheese my mom sent me that I shared with my buddies. It had gotten pretty warm on it's way to us but we ate it anyway. The cookies and other goodies were great tho. Even the cheese was good to us. I'm so glad to be where I am this Christmas and wish the military stationed around the world could be at home with their loved ones and sure thank them that we can enjoy our freedom because of what they are doing. Merry Christmas to all. Keith

Spent my first Christmas in the navy in boot camp practicing folding our stuff for a locker inspection the next day, second and third I was in Scotland, the 4th we were anchored at Naples Italy then I got the next 4 at home
