Metal Man

Hi I'm new here but have been reading posts for few years and enjoy
all the humor and knowledge that I read. I have tractors with
problems and will need help at time. All I want to say today is
Merry Christmas and Happy Safe New Year to all.

Welcome Metal Man! Make a new years resolution to quit procrastinating and to pull one of those tractors into the shop to tear into it this winter while daylight hours are short.

Yes there is some significance. I worked in the
heating and air conditioning trade for 35 plus years.
My first choice for a handle was Tin Man but that
was taken. That's kind of a Nick Name around here.

Metal Man sounds better than Tin Man. It gives a strong matter of fact impression. Might leave some wondering if you?re an ?80s hair band residual.

No my wife is Iron Butterfly.
I Didn't serve an apprenticeship. I went to the school of hard knocks.
This opened a lot more in the trade for me. The last contractor
I was with 31 plus years.
Tractors: I have a 641 Ford loader, Farmall M Farmall H Dad bought new.
and a Minnie UB no runner. Shop is a use to be horse barn and
30' X 40' X 14' machine shed. I just retired in September so I
have to get some things in order.

At a previous job I did a lot of bending with the aluminum brake and was pretty good at it, my nickname was tinknocker.

Hey dont knock 80s metal.and hair bands! I still listen to it.
We call the sheetmetal guys tin knockers at work.

Welcome! I just retired last Friday and started on a Oliver 550 with a stuck motor. You start on your UB and we'll see who gets a runner first. Chris

Metal Man, If you haven't done something of this nature yet, here is what I did in order to have a four season shop. I sold my business in 2005, and as soon as the new owner moved it out, I built an "inner room" inside the 40x50 building that had housed
my business. It is 16x22x10 with fully insulated 6 inch walls and 10 inch ceiling. I keep it at 50 degrees with a non-vented propane catalytic heater, then bump it up to 60 when I go in to work. My
annual heat bill here in NH where propane is very expensive is under $500.00, and I don't have to spend an hour getting a wood fire going for each three hours that I spend out there.

Yup, it sounds like you need to make a small area in your shop that is closed off and heated.
