Diesel Pump Question

I would like to put an adjustable gear on my VE pump on a 5.9 Cummins, but the only ones I can find are for a P pump. Is it possible that a VE and a P pump would have the same shaft size and taper?

Thanks
Rich

The Bosch VE drive shaft comes in two sizes, 17 or 20 MM taper. Bosch inline P pumps are usually 25 or 30 MM taper. Bosch inline A pumps could be 17 or 20 MM like the VE, and Bosch inline MW came with 20 or 25 MM drive. The Bosch P7100 is larger yet..

(quoted from post at 17:16:10 12/21/19) That's backwards, 12 valve VE is mechanical, 24 valve VP44 is electronic.

My bad! Mines got a p pump, I don't mess with the others.

1st gen mechanical VE pump has slotted mounting holes, you can loosen the pump and turn it some to change the timing.

Lots of info on those engines on the Cummins Diesel Forum in the 1st gen section.

Destroked is right, VE has slotted mounting holes no need for an expensive adjustable gear. If you need more than that you can jump a tooth.

Rich, I had mine cranking out 425 hp for a while with a lockup auto behind it. What a fun truck, enough torque to make newer trucks cry.
