A guy called me today and said he inherited a JD 5205 with FEL. Said the hydraulic screen keeps clogging up and he is tired of fooling with it. It has less than 300 hours.

I?m thinking brake linings came apart??

Offered it to me for 6000. He doesn?t know what he has it appears.

Someone probably put tsc water/ hydraulic oil in the system and now the brake linings are coming apart. 6000 might be a pretty good deal if you fix it yourself if you take it a shop at 100$ an hour you might better off buying one that works

SV why are you hating on yellow bucket! Lol

Tractor has never been flooded and only used to mow 5 acres of pasture. With less than 300 hours (he says) and being 18 years old I?m thinking linings just finally gave up.

We shall see. I?ll go check it out tomorrow.

I agree with SV . Look at the 2 sight glasses near the pto that is how you check the hydraulic oil level. If the oil is black looking that is a good indicator that incorrect hydraulic fluid was used and caused the brake linings to disintegrate. For the light use you say the tractor has had the brakes should be like new. I have a JD 5105 that is a year older with a lot more hours on it and the brakes work like new. Maybe you could get by with a hydraulic fluid / filter change . It sounds like a good deal for the tractor. Is it 2 wd or mfwd?

Yep 4 x 4, canopy and JD 6? brush hog goes with it. No dents and round fenders. No square fender foreign model.

Not a fan of the plastic diesel tanks on those. Sweat like hell. Bet it?s full of black sludge.

Down here that tractor will sell for 14 - 20k depending on hours and shape. If he?s happy with 6k I?ll beat him down to 5 k and we will both be happy.

I just looked em up and they are worth a lot more than I was thinking 🤔 I thought it was the e series which is pretty much a kubota only green paint

If brake disk require replacement it appears that brake disks would cost a little under $400 plus labor & oil/filter. A good operating 5205 MFWD with FEL & mower should be worth in excess of $15000

Since the pump sucks through the filter you "must" use low Viscosity oil regular Deere hydro oil will not draw through the filter..
