Anybody using ATT cell for main internet?

Out in the sticks where internet providers are far and few. Once in a while I will use my ATT phone as a hot spot as my line of sight wireless provider (Atlas BB) isn't the most reliable in the world. Just for grins I ran a speed test comparison between Atlas and my phone. Wow what a difference. Atlas down was 3.17 and ATT was 41.6. This started me thinking of switching to an ATT hot spot and ditching Atlas.

Talked to ATT about this and they came up with the Unlimited Plus plan which is 50Gig data and 15Gig hot spot before throttling back to unusable speeds. I can get this added to my cell plan for about $20.00 more a month than I am now paying for both phone and internet. I still have a few doubts and questions but thought I would see if anyone else has switched to cell phone internet and what your expierence has been.
 
No experience with what you're planning on doing, but bad experience with ATT and their introductory offers.

No way to really know because they WILL LIE to you about the long term pricing once the intro is over!

Approach with great caution!
 
I've got an AT&T router and am just starting to use it. we run 2 computers, so we got the 100gb for $100 a month plan. It works great so far. they sell
less expensive plans. I do some streaming and that uses data pretty fast. The corporate stores are the only ones to have this router or online.
 
Ditto what Steve@Advance posted. You'll get an attractive price quote from AT&T only to end up in a very short while paying about
double. BTDT. Trying to get out is a nightmare.
 
I use my Verizon cell as a hot spot. Works good and is all we have in
our rural area. I do have unlimited data.

Probably should have noted I have been with ATT wireless with phones for 30+ years, have always had good service and support. You do have to question everything, double check on what they tell you and keep records but they roll pretty easy when you present your case and have your ducks in a row. No different than any other carrier. If you spend any time on the web looking at all the carriers you will find complaints against all of them.

The so called unlimited plans from all the carriers really have limits. Not sure how it will work out for us yet. We do stream allot of movies and I do not fully understand how you can have a 15Gig hot spot limit but a 50Gig data limit. Data is data in whatever form and that still makes me what....
 
I have an AT&T cell phone and hot spot for internet. Haven't had any problems. I pay more than you were quoted but have unlimited internet and the price hasn't changed.
 
15 g isn't going to be enough for the
hotspot when you're doing a lot of
movies. I tried mine with a firestick and
went through 10 g in a week (Verizon).
Haven't used it since.
 
We moved to our farm about one year ago.
No fiber or cable internet available. We
added a wireless router to our AT&T cell
phone plan. 50 gb data limit, it provides
WiFi to our house and shop. It added 50$
a month to our bill and the rate is still
the same after a year. Performance has
been good, allows up to six users at a
time and streams videos fine.
 
I use a hotspot on my at&t work phone to get
authority to occupy the track.trust me the railroad
would not let us do this if it wasn?t reliable.this is
what we use to do work or inspect the track holding
back train traffic.
 
Google At&T fixed wireless internet. This is a home service that may be available in your area. You will have to put your address in to check availability. A receiver is placed on the side of your house. I have seen different rates and plans but have seen 250gb for $40-50/month. I have heard good comments from customers that were on slow dsl lines that were not being maintained.

We also have only Verizon Wireless available. Local phone company has run new lines and we're supposed to get land line in Spring.

Everything here is hotspot. After 15 gigs, the 4G throttles down to 3G speeds, but much slower all around than folks who are in more urban areas.

Can't speak for AT&T, but as far as I know, no towers near us other than Verizon, and that's 30 miles away!

grew up in the 60's and 70's. Like many here I suspect, our family wasn't destitute, but we sure didn't have many extras. I am trying to imagine what my dad would have said if he was asked to pay out $100 a month for internet service. Or even $25. I can hear him now, ")&*#$*&^_)(&*&%", and my mother saying, BERNIE ! lol
 
Internet today is almost a necessity unlike the many that pay ~$200.00 a month for cable or satellite TV. We have an antenna and stream movies. Our internet is what we pay for TV and it's a whole lot less than most pay for cable.
 
I have cable near my house (500'), but none of the local providers claim it as theirs. So, I use Verizon as my provider. Cell tower 2.5 miles away. Have two high-gain directional antennas feeding a MoFi Networks 4500 4G modem/router. (My desktop computers have no wireless capability, only wired ethernet). We have 15Gbt "unlimited" data at high speed, but throttled after that limit is reached. We don't stream movies (DirecTV takes care of that). For our internet usage, it is adequate for our needs. Basically, for three phone lines, about $150.00 per month. Very few problems with the service. zuhnc
 
I had AT & T 'mobility'

Just remember that AT&T loves to add 'fees' 'recovery charges' and etc. to their bills. $20 a month will turn into $30 before you know it.

Even if you don't have a contract with them, When you get done with them they don't know how to let go either. It cost me a little over $125
to get rid of them.
