Tire Chain Dimensions

The tire chain posts on the 9, 2, 8N forum prompted me to pull out three sets of tire chains that I have no use for and plan to sell. I know what two sets fit but I have a third set bought used that I'm not sure about and cannot find any tire chain dimension chart on the net.

This is a Duo-Grip set and it measures 144" in length and 31" in width. I'm guessing 16.9X28 and/or 16.9X30.

Anyone know?

I just measured a set of 15.5x38's I have as I lost half the set and am looking for a used set. They were 10'6" long and about 27" wide. I think yours are for a much larger tire.

Different make chains come with different sized links and different style (double ring vs highway type, etc) have entirely different cross chains, so a tape measure is about the only way to get an idea of what might fit.

I have never, not once, seen a set of new tire chains advertised by length and width. The manufacturer(s?) simply don't do it that way.

Tire chains are sized by the tire sizes they fit. Once that information has been lost, the only way forward is counting links. The Laclede page is the ONLY reference I've found online to help in sizing tire chains.

What few other brands are not THAT much different. The curveball comes when someone has made up a set of chains from something else, such as the set we had that was made up from multiple sets of truck chains. They were made to fit 18.4x38 tires and luckily the owner of the chains remembered that.
