The fuel tank should be deeper if it is a 450.

Tell tale signs; Deeper tank came real late to 400 but never were on the 450. Holes for changing the hydraulic from single to double were on the top above the head light on the brake
side. If originally equipped with a fast hitch it was the newer style on a 450 but late 400 could also have the new style. My dads did but I need to look at pictures if I can find
them for the gas tank. Paint if original was a white grille on a 450 but I agree a lot of them were changed in a repaint. Engine displacement in a 400 was 264 on gas and 281 on a 450
but most were taken to the overbore in overhauls, seems like the Diesel were the same size but I don't know for sure. But given that these are old, a lot of parts have been traded back
and forth between the two for along time so the name plate or casting numbers would be the for sure thing.
