Front mount 3 point

Tractors at tractor shows in Europe like this one more often than not have front three point hitch as
well as the one in the back of the tractor. Don't see front three point hitch on tractors in the States.
What would be the reason for this difference in design between the countries.

I have seen smaller tractors with front 3 point, especially in orchard area they pick up a fruit bin on each end. I remember seeing sales brochure for New Generation JDs with optioinal front 3 point.

I'm in North Dakota and some of the BTO's around have been buying later-model John Deeres with front 3-point hitches and PTO's and putting snow blowers on them.

Probably other brands, as well, but the handful I've seen have been green.

Maybe not commonly used in the USA except for the triple mowers. Seems like it would be very helpful to be able to mount a snow blower on the front. Zuidberg has been making add on three point front hitches for a long time (add to almost any non-antique tractor)(15 manufacturers listed).

Have you seen the pictures where they have a mounted plow on the front, as well as the rear?

The big hay guys around here are now cutting hay with a tractor with a front mounted cutter, and two wings. I don't know what they cover. Probably 30 feet.

A neighbor has a Magnum which was built for export, then came back here from Europe with a front three point hitch made in Scotland. When I bought my Magnum, I was able to locate a front three point hitch used [made overseas] and installed it with a rock bucket. I wanted something to carry off, or dig out rocks, but didn't want a loader.

I built a quick detach 3pt hitch that fastens to the Myers snow plow frame on my Case 440. It is pretty handy for mounting York rake or a utility box.

I was told back in the 1980's while a college student that US manufacturers decided against the concept after limited experimentation that the liability risk would be too great. In part due to obscured forward vision and in part due to hazard from having power driven equipment such as a front mounted forage harvester too close to the tractor operator.

Shaun .... Essex Tri-Directionals had one on the front, one on the back, and one on the side (left or right a factory option but not both).

Makes sense.

No other country in the world has the problem with tort attorneys as does the US.

A front three point hitch and pto adds about 20 grand to the cost of a new tractor, more or less depending on tractor hp. Starting to become very popular here as Bob Bancroft said for hay cutting. Also front 3pth can carry extra ballast weight, which can be easily removed if not needed.

Europe has very stringent road width limits, 3 or 3.5 meters (10 to 11.5 feet) max depending on the country. This means that most European implements are narrower than what we would be used to in the USA but they typically do more work in one pass. For example, a power harrow can be mounted on the front hitch and a planter on the back and in one pass go from a rough plowed field to seeds in the ground. To do the same thing here we might have a pass with a disk, a pass with a field cultivator, then finally a pass with the planter. In other words, in North America we try to maximize productivity with wider implements but in Europe they more focus on doing as many tasks per pass as possible since they can't get larger implements down the road.
