oldest tractor you may have owned since new...

All,

what internal combustion-engine (non-automobile) have you owned since new?

I have a 1987 Yamaha warrior 350 atv. It still starts and run, butI put new tires, batteries, clutches, and some other whatnots, I have been the owner for a few moments in time.

That's a length of time!

Sweetfeet,

My apologies, I meant for the title to say "oldest engine". I cannot retract my post, so for here on, I admit a (many) silly mistake on my part. Thanks for the reply, however.

Everyone else,, you have the chance to pounce onn my error, or ignore it.

Mine is a 1971 Ford 100 (Jacobsen built) lawn tractor with a 42" mower deck and a 4' sickle bar mower. I bought it when I worked for Ford and had an employee discount. When I opened the crate with the sickle mower the manual said, "Sickle bar for your Jacobsen Chief Tractor". WHA-A-A-A?
Over the years I bought wear items based on which dealer had a better price.
Our oldest son bought a house 10 years ago and used it to mow his 2 acres until he bought an NAA from me and we found him a Woods RM600 3 point finish mower.
During the period my son had it his sons did a cleanup and partial repaint and received a first place for best restoration by "young people" at our annual tractor club show.
The Ford 100 is retired and is back in my barn. It has not been run in over 8 years. Project waiting.

Have a 2008 Honda 400 quad bought new. About 700 miles on it. Also a 1979 john Deere 440 trail fire snow machine about 1400 miles on it. Guess cars don?t count , but a 2010 challenger with about 2000 miles on it.

Never had a new tractor, pickup, or much of anything else. I did buy a new '00 Mustang. I'll have had it 20 years on December 23rd. Two of my tractors have been on this farm since new - my Grandpa bought the 7000 in '75 and the 4600 in '80.

Wife?s family has had an 80 hp CASE in the family since 1913. It?s seen a few new names and a couple farm dogs in 106 years, but same family.

I have my dad's 1938 unstyled G John Deere he bought new in 1938. Only new vehicle I ever bought was a 1976 Chevrolet 4 wd 3/4 ton pickup. Ordered it from dealer It rus great and now has a flatbed mostly farm truck. Only has about 87000 miles on it since I don't drive it that much

Hardly anything new comes to this farm. Only thing comes to mind is the 1977 Kawasaki Sno-Jet I bought new in November of 76. I've still got it but hasn't run in a few years. This is how it looked about 1980.

1966 Honda Super Hawk. Stuck some money in it last year, new clutch and cable, tires, battery, and tuneup. 24,000+ miles. Runs like a champ. Told my grandsons when they got over 5 feet tall I?d teach them to ride, probably next summer for the oldest. Can?t wait!

Is the snowmobile a 340? If so I had one just like it, but not brand new when I got it. If I remember right I traded $400 worth of hay for it. I guess the closest thing to being here since brand new I have (except for a vehicle) is a 2006 John Deere 5203 that I bought as a demo (used to pull people haulers at the NY State fair.)

The H on our farm has been here since new. It's a 51 I believe. It replaced the farms very first tractor which was an older model H

I do not own anything new, unless you count a 3 strike warranty return yard vac that I bought in the fall of 2008 from the same store that originally sold it the first time in the spring of 2008. The oldest machine I own is a 1929 allis 20-35. The oldest in the family since new is my Dad's 1949 Allis WD that he pretty much retired for the past 10 years.

This Ford tractor has been in the family since my dad bought it new in 1950. I also have an Allis Chalmers 175 that I bought new in 1977

Yes, its a 340 twin Kawasaki and its had it's share of problems. Nice light machine to drive otherwise. It was about $1500 new which was a lot of money for me in 1976.

2010 Polaris Ranger.

1992 Dakota.

Dad bought a 530 John Deere in 1968, it was a few years old but it's still on the farm. I'm the little boy in the picture, I was 4 years old.
cvphoto43720.jpg

I bought a new 806 Farmall, 9-11-67, still runs like new, two sets of bearing, and one keeper came off a intake valve. I still plowed with it at the plowing bee in September 2019 .

I bought a 1991 John Deere 2955, still here and will be til I'm gone. I have a 2120
JD my dad bought new in 1973. I also bought 4 new pickups since 1981, and sold them locally when we got the next one and all of them are still on the road.

The only vehicle I ever bought brand new was a 1996 Polaris Indy 500 snowmobile, $4550 out the door. Rode 4000+ miles the first season, owned it up until about three winters ago, sold with 7000+ miles for $1500.

Even the 51 JD MI I got from Grandpa was one he sold and cosigned for, then ended up with on default...

Co-op E3 bought new by my grandpa, Oliver 550 bought new in 62, Oliver 1550 bought new in late 60s, red stripe white 2-85 bought new in 83 still have all of them and still use them on the farm.

I bought a brand new Honda CL 175 motorcycle in 1973.I was 16. Put 30,000 miles on it in 3 years.Sold it in about '80.I bought a brand new Jd 4040 tractor in 1980.3000 hrs in 3 years.Lost it in '83.Still miss the motorcycle.Still my favorite motorcycle of all time. Not so much with the tractor.

To add to the mix after being out of the family for about 13 years [65 to 83]; the IHC Farall BN late 1946 model that dad bought in 1946 has been in my possession since 1983. For 24 years it sat in pieces [from 91 to 2015 after the engine came apart , center hanger and shaft web smashed] now is running again and use even in the winter.

I've never owned a new tractor, bought a new skis loader once but it's long gone. Bought a few new cars and pickups the latest is my wife's 2014 edge. My dad was the first owner of my 53 DC that has always been in the family. Still my most used tractor.

My John Deere generator is it for me. I bought it about 11 years ago for a job and it is still here. Everything else was used when purchased or newer.

i was brand new in 52 and still live on the same place as for tractors 1949 to-20 Ferguson we both get used everyday only thing is tractor is a lot cheaper to maintain the last year

52 Ford 8n that has been in the family since new.
Used it yesterday moving a wood trailer.
My Dad and me about 1955.

Never bought a new tractor, but first tractor was a farmall cub,
Sold it and bought a 1951 8n Ford in 2008, bought a new Kawasaki mule in 2014 used almost daily, a Simplicity riding mower, and a Yardman push mower, a Coleman 1800 watt generator all bought new, only bought one new vehicle, a 2012 GMC Pickup it has 44.000 miles on it now, I'm 71 so it should last me until I check out.

My Grandpa purchased a 1949 Oliver 88 new. It has remained in the family and I have it now. He also purchased a new 3206 Cub Cadet Gasrden Tractor in the 90's and I have it now as well.

1993 Kubota B1750HSDT, purchased new in May of 1993.

Best major purchase of my life.

Dean

My first cousin has a 50 1/2 (has OEM tach) 8N that his father bought new.

It will be going soon as, at 80, he just sold his family farm where it has lived it's entire life.

Dean

Oldest that I have, bought the year I was born, when it was only 1yr old (75hrs) when purchased, is a 1955 IH 300u; now it has 7700hrs. There is also a 1952 Ford 8n which was bought new, but a cousin's husband has it. Oldest that I personally bought, is a 1984 Stihl 028 saw, still runs great. Mark.

Kind of depends on what you call new.
Back in the late 60s to mid 70s Ford donated a bunch of tractors to various high schools and votechs around the country. Most of them got destroyed by many inexperienced hands.
But a few did not. They are as pristine as the day they were built. Ive owned half a dozen of these. They came as shown below.
So my question is: does the 1976 3600 that I bought 8 years ago count as a 44 year old tractor or an 8 year old tractor?
It WAS brand new when I bought it but has probably 500 hours on it now.
cvphoto43748.jpg

I bought a Suzuki Katana 600 motorcycle new in 1990,and still have it. Also a 1997 Ski Doo Mach 1 700 snowmobile new which I still own. Both are still in like new shape.

Dad died in Dec. 1964. I bought a new Pioneer Holiday chainsaw in 1965. Still use it at the deer shack every time we go there.

Dad traded a 1963 Cub Cadet Original off in 1965 for a brand new Cub Cadet 70. It mowed over a half mile of road bank every week plus two LARGE house yards and barn yards. The 7 hp Kohler engine was heavily stressed by the 38 inch deck and was professionally rebuilt after 3 years mowing both farm's yards. After another 3 years Dad an I rebuilt it a second time. About that time we moved to the "Other Farm" and only mowed one yard, and after 5-6 years the 7 hp engine was replaced with an 8 hp. Not sure where the last engine came from, looked like it was a Wheel Horse version of a Kohler, not even sure if it's 7 or 8 hp. Anyhow I rebuilt a 10 hp Kohler that I rebuilt the first time in 1981 and ran 22 years and almost 1500 hours in MY #72 CC. But, the repowered 70, or is it a 100? Sits in my shop freshly repainted, rebuilt engines, transmission, both clutches, just needs some new tires, the Good Year turf tires are badly cracked. Only 54 years old. It sits next to Dad's '51 Farmall M he bought new, 68 yrs old, only been overhauled twice, first time about 1957-'58, 4" 5000 ft high altitude sleeves/pistons, and again about 1967-'68, 4" M&W Add Power sleeves/pistons.

My brother has a circa 1928 Farmall Regular that our Grandfather bought brand new! Ran when parked, but that was some 40 years ago! It's still on the same farm it started on!

I have a 1972 Pioneer P50 chainsaw I bought new that I still use and a 1982 Sweet Allis 6070 with cab & air, bought new, 4,200 hours on the clock, has been my main tractor over the years.
