steps to remove hood on styled G

I want to remove hood on my styled G john deere. Looks like grill ,front nose cone, steering shaft and dash are all involved. Where do I start and in what order. Thanks

cant be that hard to figure out, remove nose cone, grill , then should be able to get at steering shaft to disconnect at front then pull it back then remove the hood.

It's been a while, but seems the steering wheel comes off. front casting on steering gear box comes off, and steering shaft comes out through front of gear box. Have to rotate shaft till worm gear is out. But yes, the steering shaft comes out the front. That's on an "A". I assume the "G" would be the same. I might be wrong, but I think the gas tank comes off with the hood as well. I remember it being a project to get the hood off, if you've never done it before. It's been many years for me, so I'm not able to remember just how I've done it. Someone will be along to tell you how.... It's a project. That's why so many had cut a square in the hood in order to replace the muffler, rather than take the hood off.

You will need a helper to raise it high enough to clear the air stack and muffler. Disconnect the wires to gauges from the regulator as they are threaded through the hood. Drain all gas out before you start and remove gas line. Steering shaft, grilles, nose cap, take bolts out of dash to hood. It?s been awhile for me but these are ones I remember.

I watched a video on YouTube a few nights ago where two guys had to replace or repair the radiator on a 70,they removed grille, steering shaft, hood, and removed the radiator. May be some help.

After thinking about it, on the g you can remove the muffler and air stack before you remove the hood! You will still need a helper, makes it easier to handle the hood and gas tank!
