I was given a TO20 By my wifes uncle, serial # is 103430, I believe that is a 1948 model. OIl is leaking at distrbutor when engine is running, I pulled valve cover to check vent tube, carb cleaner ran throught it fine. Any advice?

I cannot say for sure on that one but many distributors have an o-ring on them so as to seal oil form leaking and if it is bad it will cause that.

Or s also said if you do not shut the gas off when parked the oil could be over full with a mix of gas and oil and that is bad news if you run it for long as in blown engine

In that case good chance the o-ring or gasket is bad and needs to be replace or live with it. To replace you have to pull the distributor so you have to be sure it is at TDC on #1 or at least make sure you get it back in so the rotor points to the same place on the distributor

If the oil is coming out where the distributor timing clamp is located, it's probably as Old said - bad O-Ring there. If leaking through the body of the distributor, the casting may be cracked. Ferguson maintenance spec on these tractors was to fill the distributor body with oil. Most other manufactures specify to use grease.

I can not tell if the vent tube is working. I can not feel in air from the tube
The vent tube vents the cranckase to atomosphere. You shouldn't "feel" air from the vent tube unless you have a ton of blowby.

Thanks for your advice,

How do I stop the oil filter plate on the pan from leaking oil after I changed the oil?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge

If it's leaking around the large cover, sounds like you need a new gasket there. This may be what you need:

If it's leaking at the bolt that holds the cover on, you need a new gasket there. Take the bolt to your hardware store and find a gasket (copper, fiber, nylon, etc) that fits.

Turned out that they gave me a filter that was a bit long, Got the right filter from Tractor supply. Used a good amount of gasket sealer since I can not get seal local. will have to be ordered, Solved problem. Thanks for the help.
