What's a 8ft disc worth?

My brother knows a guys with a 8ft disc for sale. He wants $200 for it. I've not seen this disc yet, I will for sure go see before I buy it. He says it's in useable condition.(who knows) I also dont know if it has hydraulic lift or not. But assuming it is in good condition, is that a fair price? It seems like a good deal to me (if it's all there, or mostly) I'm in the market for a disc. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It is a desirable size so wouldn't have to in very good shape to bring more than 200 at auction, even missing the cylinder as many of them are.

Look it over well, be good to see if the bearings are tight and pans snug on the axles, + wear on pans.
Depends on the model, as to worth rebuilding vs modern equivalent, post back with photos if you can.

With missing a cylinder you would be talking about a wheel disk while I think others are thinking 3 point hitch and then there is full pull-drag type that sell for the least money but sometimes will do a better job that the others. So without a model at least and more likely a make to go with it hard to give an estimate ov prices. Very few wheel disks were made in a size as small as a 8' unit. Most wheel disks with 6 blades on a side would be a 7.5' as factory measured the back gang, not the front. And a 7 blade on a side would be 8'8". Now to go to a 8' back gang you would have to go to an older drag typr with 7 blades on a side with blades spaced closer. Most 3 point diske have a wider blade spacing if made by a short line company and that wide spacing is not good for a finnishing disk, only for a rough tillage unit.

$800 if not torn up for a good one... $1200 if heavy duty.

be sure it has ball bearings and not clam shell bearings on the axles if your keeping it.

Have you priced a new one? Cheapies start at a grand and go to $2800 or more. So a clam shell bearing cheapie used will bring $600 on a bad day.

What is it about the clam shell type bearings ? Are they prone to fail or wear out, soil gets into them or something ?

I just bought what is supposed to be a 10' J series Ford flex-o-hitch in good shape, though it sat so long a portion of some of the pans are just flaking off, they were otherwise like new. Bearings and gangs are all tight.

My rationale is that this the perfect size for my tractor, can't touch one for the price I paid, even if I re-pan the whole thing with USA made pans. They are somewhat hard to find around here and some they wanted the same money for, are just totally worn out.

The difference is with those bearings you need to take the time to gtease them with a grease gun at least 2 or 3 times a day. The ball bearings forget them untill one goes bad and needs replacing. The ball bearing ones might pull just a shade easier but hardly noticeable.

Ok, same as this well detailed article on the N website said about this particular model, every 4 hours, which is not that bad at all, 4 zerks on each gang or 16 in all.
