I bought this tractor with coolant bubbling out of the radiator. I figured a head gasket. Did a compression test. #1 95, #2 95 #3 110. Low compression.
Did a leak down test and had air coming out the valve guides. Adjusted the tappets. .015 for intake and .018 for exhaust. Redid the leak test and same
thing. Bad rings I figure.
Removed the head and head gasket looks great feasted for flatness and can?t get a .002? feeler gauge any where. Same with top of block.
Cylinders measure 4.205 to 4.215 at different locations.
My questions are
What would you do?
Bore and sleeve with standard pistons?
Bore with over sized pistons
Put new rings? a head gasket lap the valves and button it up?.
I read something about these engines having a cavitation problem in the coolant passages and boring may cause a leak down the road leading to hydro
lock. That?s why I was going to sleeve it but it?s a lot more money
After thinking it was only a head gasket Lol my making a easy buck flew out the window
Any advice is appreciated
Cheers
