John Deere 2020 final drive oil

I'm having some problems with how to drain this oil. I have removed a 1/2" hex head plug on the side of the axle housing, a few drops of water comes out but nothing else. Is this the fill hole or drain hole? Does the finals get the oil from the main transmission reservoir or is there a different plug to fill them somewhere? What kind of oil should be used?
Thanks

Check the oil level by unscrewing the knob (which is attached to a dipstick) that is on the platform - directly behind you right heel when you are sitting on the seat. After you have the dipstick loose and dried off, then just set it on the access hole to read an accurate level (assuming the tractor is setting on level ground).
I use Hygard Hydraulic oil (which I believe is the correct oil)- it's available from Deere.
The fill hole is the (approx 3" diameter) tube that comes out the back of the transmission - directly behind the seat.

Welcome to YT
Drain plug(key 19) is shown in photo & is on the bottom of trans case. While you have oil drained would be a good time to check/clean hyd oil intake screen(key 30). Trans, differential & hyd oil are all in one compartment.

Hy-Gard or the Shell oil for tractor transmission/hydraulics . The name escapes me at the moment .
Is there a loader or anything ever plugged into the hydraulics ?

Yes, it has a loader on it.

Depending how the hydraulic oil is tapped from the too the tractor will make a difference on the speed and smooth operation of the loader. The front pump does not operate well when starved for oil and while it is cavitating.
This oil is an acceptable substitute for Hy-Gard.http://tdc.ge/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/5_SPIRAX_S4_TXM.pdf

I remember well having a 2010 or 2020 come into our shop in the early 70's that we had to replace the whole final drive housing gears bearings ect as the owner never knew they had a separate compartment for them from the rear end housing,, it had been ran dry of oil only shavings came out when we took it apart,, yours sounds like that style, it was a Spendy repair even then with the damage it had, hope yours is still ok

the only relation between a 2010 and a 2020 is that they are both painted green.
As for the owner not knowing about oil in the differential housing. I am sure that he would have been angry if told to read the operators manual prior to the gears running dry.
