Farmall 806 diesel pto noise

Went and hooked tractor up to 1000 pto shredder and when I go to engage pto, the unit it self makes a grinding/ gear train noise when it engages, you can also hear something when near case. Took shaft off and ran tractor with pto on and it didn?t make any noise.

As can be seen in this parts diagram, there are an abundance of gears and clutches and splines in the PTO unit. Is this the first time for using the 1000rpm shaft? or what was happening the last time it was used, or was the other shaft working? Jim

Is it possible that it is not the tractor and a part of the drive line instead? The PTO on an 806 does not make any noise when running unless it is bad. They are not bad to pull to fix or change out for a rebuilt unit. Do Keep in mind you have to tilt them up to keep from damaging the screen at the end of the suction tube on the PTO unit.
