Ford 535 Industrial power steering

I have a buddy who just bought a 1975 Ford 535 Industrial with a WF3 loader, 3 point and PTO. At least the seller told him that is what it is - there are no visible model/serial tags that we can find. It does appear just like the photos we have found on tractordata and other online sources. He has a manual coming but it is not here yet.

Problem is that one of the power steering cylinders has blown the seals out of one end. We found what was supposed to be the correct cylinder on Amazon but it is 3 inches too short. There is one on ebay but it has the same part number as the one on Amazon.

He took the blown cylinder to a hydraulic repair shop in Wichita and was told it was not repairable unless put in a lathe and the end cut off, then new seals installed, then welded back. Doesn't sound right to me but I am no mechanic. Interestingly I see seal kits online all over the place so I suspect the thing is repairable, we just need to find a shop that can do it if we cannot find a used one

We have a local tractor salvage but he doesn't have one. So my question is does anyone have any idea of a Ford salvage operation that may have one? Thank you in advance for any help!

The Ford parts pic for 535 uses cylinder under radiator. The cyl you are describing has seals serviced for rod only. They were used on 3 cyl 2/3/4000 SU. there is a replacement that is dissambled for service. They are serviced by removing scrapper then snapring

There were some built at that time that were not serviceable. There are serviceable ones available, you just have to do some research. Some
had 7/16 rods, some 1/2". Compare the ones for the 3000 and 4000.

It may take same cleaning but Ford tractors built after 1965 have the model code, build date and serial numbers hand stamped on the flat area behind the starter.

This one is of and 93 model 5030

Thank you to all! There are some god hints there. I do not have the cylinders near me but my buddy told me tonight that the cylinder is crimped at both end, hence cannot trake it apart. We thought it was factory but that was a best guess. I will try to get a pic to post and in the meantime we will start running down some of these clues. If there are any good tractor salvage yards that might have one please let us know! I should have been noting the yards that get mentioned here from time to time but I didn't (but will for future refernce from now on!)

Thank you all again!

Thank you for the tip! We should follow the one suggestion and clean off the model number stamping so we know for sure what he has, then we need the manual to get the part number so we can cross reference from this catalog. Looks like they have many so we may be in luck but need further info first. Anyway, this catalog looks like a big help.

We are still trying to figure out just what this tractor is. We have the model/date/serial off the casting (thank you to Destroked 450 for the clue) and I will post a couple of photos plus a couple that show more of the tractor.

Maybe to shortcut, the top line of the stamping on the casting is C4012 and I think there is a C after. The middle line is 5K08B and the serial lilne is *479061*

According to the chart on this site the serial makes it a 1975, which is what he was told by the prior owner. I looked up the model code and came up with a 3000 Utility, diesel, 540 PTO off the transmission. It is a 3 cyl diesel, 8 speed. Did we do the translation right? It has several coats of paint on it and there are no stickers or other identifying marks.

Can it be a 3000 series and still be a 535? What is the difference between "utility" and "industrial" and for general work around the property will it matter?

Apologies for the loader being in the way in the photos.

A couple more... And thank you in advance for any help!!! The goal now is to try to figure out what cylinder seal kit we need for the power steering cylinders. The cylinders are different on the left and right, but there are a couple of seal and a snap ring in the end of each cylinder and we can probably make it work if we can find the right seals and snap ring kit.

per you model number...

you have a 3400

which is a 3000 series... Utility, diesel, 540 pto and 8/2 speed transmission.

Its a 3000 with the upgraded front end axle called a 3400. Not to be confused with the super upgraded front end on a 3500 (backhoe grade) tractor.

The the 3400 steering cyls use the bigger rods than a regular 3000.iirc.. they use the 5/8" vs 1/2" rods but you better check as my memory is fading.

sotxbill is correct.

The tractor is a 3400 Utility built on Nov 8, 1975.
Left cylinder # C5NN3C578B
Right Cylinder # C5NN3A739G
Available on this site.

My brother has a 3400 like that one but has a later model box frame loader.

We have found a very confusing array of cylinder numbers and this info is more welcome than you can imagine.

Thank you to all!
