jd 301a engine overhaul

I have a john deere 301a with a 2.5 3 cly diesel engine the moter will just slightly move really tight. looking at having it pulled and fixed. the tractor dose have a loader on it . any ideas on what a fair price is for a over haul. thanks

Right at $1,200 to $4,500. The shop can't tell you closer until they know what it needs.

Wonder if it is even the engine ? Maybe a hyd pump or reverser ? If you have any mechanical experience at all I'd just tear into it. Depending on what happened most of that engine can be rebuilt in the machine.
