Thought I'd post a pic of the tractor that my uncle traded in his Cockshutt 30 (the pic I posted last week) on. The LA Case was a big step up in power and weight. He had a Cat and did a little bush clearing with it. He got a set of steel wheels to put on the LA and used it to pull the bush breaking plow. No pictures of that unfortunately.

That was a popular tractor around here and there are still some sitting in the weeds. Bigger then what IH had at the time. Someday I'm going to get one because I have an L and a 500. Just need the LA to fill the gap. Neighbor has one fully restored with a GM 4-53 transplanted into it.

Those GM two stroke diesels are an awesome sounding engine. Probably not the best thing for your hearing though. I recorded an Oliver 990 at the vintage tractor pulls years ago and it was plenty loud even at the distance I was away from it.

Awesome to think those were the big tractors in that
day . I often think while I?m out working on the 3020
or 4020 of a man still farming with an old model A or
D John Deere and what he must of thought when
he saw those big new tractors

I have read stories and seen pics of plowing down ten foot brush in the Peace river area. I still don't see how they could turn ground with that much brush and the roots that go with it, and then get it smoothed enough to work it even with a disc with 3 foot discs on it.

The first tractor that I drove solo was a 1939 L. Later the L got retired to the saw
mill, and we got an LA I can't begin to fathom how many hrs. I spent driving that
thing. I plowed, disced, and pulled a spring tooth harrow with it. All during the
summer I drove it pulling a Case NCM and later a Case 140 baler. The tractor also
powered 2 different Case pull-type combines and the forage harvester, but my uncle
did all the combining and chopping.
Durung the spring when harrowing after dark the
manifold and muffler would provide as much light as the headlights.-------------------

Great old tractors. I have had 3.
Bought the first one near Lamar MO in 1996 to pull a dirt pan to enlarge my pond.
Used 25 gallons a day but it was a hoss.
It had rice tires on it.
Out discing at night with it to plant wheat and you did not need headlights.
The straight pipe had a tall flame which lit the way.
It was a propane which I converted to gasoline and the high compression propane head made it stout.
Bought another which my son painted up better than it rolled out of the factory.
It sat in my shop covered in a huge sheet my wife sewed together.
Too pretty to work it, so I finally sold it to a collector.
Third one was bought as a parts tractor.
Also pulled my sawmill a while with an LAE engine that did a great job.
Cranked it one morning at 9 degrees with the hand crank to saw frozen logs.

My uncle's La Case was long gone before I was on the scene so I never got to drive one. I saw several of them at farm auctions and the used
tractor parts farm over the years. One of the nicest I saw was at a farm auction in the summer of 09. Actually that was one of the best old iron
auctions I've ever attended.
