Brent's thoughts of hard knock school:

Brent's thoughts of hard knock school. Within that past years I have to learn these things the hard way. So here are a few things that might help us out (I hope). 1- making Shure the exhaust stack clapper is tight and secure before starting up engine. How many times I have had hit me in the head because I did not check them. 2- Making Shure the kill switch for the magneto is set in the on position. Some of us have these tricky switches that ground out our magnetos. Check them before you pull off that Magneto and start working on it. 3- Making Shure the tractor is out of gear before starting it up. How many times we at tractor show forget to make Shure of this one. Is it funny how the tractor always starts up with the first hit on the starter in gear. 4-When you think you have failed on what your working one. Always remember that it is batter than what it was when you fist started. 5- You never have enough tractors (L.O.L). Stopping in no where looking at tractors is okay. for guys like use that is showing that we are Normal. So that is what I have learned so far since 1994 with working with tractors. I know I have gone threw the Hard Knock Collage of tractors. It is one enjoyable school to go threw. I would do it again and I know I learned computer and watch this site grow. Yesterday tractors is better than ever know not like it was back in 1995 when I first got the internet hooked up. thank you tractor guys like use we did it.

Ya got toooo damn many!!!!! Wow it looks great in your crowded collection. Do you conduct tour guided folks through? :) Just love the flashing colors.

To you comment thanks: Back in 1994 I had bought an Allis Chalmers model B. Started off restoring it and feel in love. Now I have 9 farm tractors. The shop still is full of tractors. Having a parent who died of Old timers do to the fact they just stopped and did nothing. I need this to keep my mind busy and I need this for myself. I like many different tractors not all one make or model. I like to help others out with problems and I do learn from those other people like you on this site to. this is the hard knock school for tractors right here on this site.

I fixed that flapper issue ! I don't use them. I run JD 2 cyl. and I can't stand them banging open and closed at idle ! lol.

#1 Always engage the brain before engaging the hand and other body part.
#2 Also one of the most important things to remember the only safety device that works well is the one between the ears. All safety devices are made by man and the tend to fail at some point and time and when that happen that is when a person ends up in the hospital.

#3 always go back to #1 before doing any thing else

I spent a half hour trying to start a lawnmower with no gas in it. I got it out and primed it and no go. Figured I flooded it so took the plug out , tried again and no go. Got a new plug out of the package and tried , no go so gave it a whiff of ether and it popped , kept cranking no go. Finally wondered if some water had got in the gas...opened the top on the gas tank and bone dry ! Filled and started on the first pull...pretty dumb !!

Mike,
As a kid, we up a metal can over exhaust. Yep, you remembered as soon as you saw the can went flying.
I don't use anthing over exhaust. All My girls are kept in a dry barn.

That one reminds of a guy that was on the same sub as I was and in the same dept I was in. Any how he spent 8 hours trouble shooting piece of equipment that would not come back on. He forgot it had a door safety switch. that would turn the thing off of you opened up the door and he forgot to turn it back on. So he did trouble shooting it for 8 hours till he remember the switch

If it weren't for HNU (Hard Knocks U.) I wouldn't have survived my life! But being on the back side of the mountain now, all that blood-sweat-tears paid off and life is good.

I would like to say thank you to every body's comments. they where nice to read I guess I am not the only one who has taken class of that hard knock school.
