My Driveway

We'll be moving out to out 11 acres next year. I got the driveway graveled so it will be ready. Took 7 dump trucks. I spread it with my 3000 diesel and blade. These are pictures of part of it but not all. The old road bed lined with trees are part of the original road my family built. The community is named after them Burrowtown. They had quite a bit of land and settled the area in the 1820's. It's in Fayette county Tennessee. Mr. Larry on the corner and Old I'm going to have me a big garden out there and will probably be asking you both canning questions!

looks good!!! mom used to say, if you buy a place, the very first thing you do is plant your fruit trees. when i bought the farm in 06, i planted the orchard before anything else. got nice producing fruit trees now! !!

Looks good, glad ya'll are getting out of the "Hood", we sure don't miss it. Who did you get your gravel from? The last I got came out of Savanah.

Yes a lot of clay. It's what is used around here for driveways it's a lot cheaper than limestone. It's what they put down before they lay asphalt. After it sets up it is hard. It's wet in the pictures but when it dries it's not nearly that red looking. It cost me $275.00 pet truck load which is about 25 tons. Limestone is more than double that.

A friend of mine did the hauling. He gave me a good price because he was getting it from Memphis Stone And Gravel and it was only about 20 minutes from my land.

Limestone has really went up around here too. Gravel here I think is around what you paid ,but is washed with very little if any dirt in it.

I used to have 4 house trailers on 1 acre. Best thing I ever did was to tear them down. Area planning wouldn't let anyone move them
I couldn't give them. Tear them down.

I would buy 20 to 40 ton of white rock annually. Back then it cost a little over$400 for 20 ton.
I've moved estimate 40 ton to where I plan to build a pole barn.

Here is a picture of the clean gravel which ranged from

#2 to #8.
The gravel with more dirt was on the top inch for so. That gavel will be used for road bed. The clean was used for barn floor. Got it packed in real good

The barn floor is within a quarter inch of level because a quarter inch of concrete is about $120 plus tax.

Every time it rains I pack it with 5000# roller.

I like putting down a couple inches. then pack.

Some pack by driving on road

Keep it up and enjoy your tractor time

Love the woods, the red clay gravel, and the way the drive meanders through the trees.

I could very easily transition to living in Tennessee or South Carolina - visited both this summer and loved both states! Just can't convince my husband... he's rooted to our old farm like an old oak tree.

Looks good. Is crushed concrete available there? I like that for driveway work it stays good and will hold up in the spring thaw good. I put it down about 6inches deep and can drop loaded trailers in spring on it without sinking.

25 tons is a very full tri-axle load. You can call that your Christmas driveway. Pretty bright red and green!
