Started my white 2-105 up after a total
rebuild carrying good oil pressure let run
for 15mins i turned it off and was just
looking around and checked the nut on the
front pulley and it was so hot I couldn't
keep my finger on it is this normal after a
rebuild? I plastigage all the bearings all
was good so not sure what is going on.. i
pulled to pulley and timeing cask off to
make sure nothing was rubing and eveything
looked fine so i droped the oil pan and
took #1 #4 main and #1 #5 rods caps off and
they look great everything looks like its
geting oil anyone run into this befor?

If just the nut was hot I wouldn't have a clue, but if the pully also was as hot, perhaps the belt was slipping.

No, does not sound normal.

What kind of seal is on the front? If a neoprene seal, was it lubricated? Possibly a dragging seal could generate some heat, but there should have been some evidence of burning in the seal area .

Any shiny spots on the front main? Did you roll the upper bearing out and check it? It's normal for the front upper bearing to show more wear over time because of the belt pulling up, but it should look new after only a few minutes. But if the upper is showing hot spots or metal to metal, either the bearing shell is too thick (packaged wrong, mfg wrong), or there was something under the bearing, or the block needs align bored.

I agree with cole that if it was only the nut that is a head scratcher. If the whole pulley was hot I would also say it is the belt slipping. Probably had to crank it a bit to get the injection system bled. Then when it started the alternator was putting out some decent amps to recharge the batteries thus pulling hard and possibly slipping. Were the belts tight? How do the pulley grooves look? Are the bottoms of the V grooves shiny? This could mean the grooves are worn to much and the belts can?t grip the sides of the V. Then pulley should be replaced. If this is the case the belts were likely slipping for sure.
