Old Radson Moisture Meter Use

Picked up this old Radson "20E" moisture meter at an auction for a couple bucks. Figured it would give us a rough idea of the moisture of the corn. We don't do enough grain to justify even a cheap digital meter.

Near as I can tell from what little I've found online, you turn it on, set the big dial to "Calibrate" then use the little knob to center the needle in the gauge. Then you measure out a cup of corn using the balance on the back, and dump it in the hopper.

This causes the needle to move full to the right, so you use the big dial to center the needle again, and read the moisture percentage off the big dial.

That sound about right on how to use the thing? Closest I could find to an online tutorial was one from rusty6 (roosty6 on youtube).

Sounds like the same for a Dole tester. Some testers have 2 scales for corn on the
big dial, for a 3 or a 5 ounce sample. There may be a small weight to attach to
the cup for the 5 oz. sample.

Your instruction sounds right. We had one, along with truck scales on our farm in Wichita County KS and when I was a young teen it was my harvest job to run the scales plus test moisture with one of those. Now wondering what happened to it. Wish I had it for old times sake. I had forgotten - thank you for the memory!

Maybe there's temperature compensation charts for this meter, but I didn't get any documentation with it.

Unfortunately the meter's limited to 26%... We're in high moisture territory, but don't know if it's 27% or 37%.

Ours has a weight snaped to the rear of
unit. You snap it to the bottom of the
weigh cup. Their is another scale on the
wheel for lighter sample. I could take a
picture of the scale and how heavy weight
is and send it to your phone this evening.

I believe Dole bought Radson, or something like that. When I retired my old Radson/Dole last year, the dealer from whom I bought the new tester wanted my old one for a little antique display he had in mind!

Where are you located? I have 2 similar to what you have, I think maybe they are Dole brand. They are complete and one has the temperature correction printed on the grain door. I'll never use them again. We can probably make a deal on them. e-mail is open. Chris
