Remove water pump

Remove bolts in elbow at rear of tube.
Should be a drain plug in the elbow
When I put mine back together, I expected it to leak, but it doesnt

If it's been there "forever", it takes cussing, blood, sweat, and tears, and when all that failed, a smoke wrench to heat up the castings where the hard, brittle, rusted O-rings are enough to burn them out.

I think on those you can remove the water pump, pipe and casting at the head in one chunk. Then you can take it to the workbench. Heat on where the o rings are to burn them out saves a lot of time and aggravation.

Thanks for the replies everyone.. that thing is old and a pain in the rear! Not having much luck

Always inspect the tube rust lurks in them. I use
sandpaper clean oring groove and where it slides
in very smooth, then coat oring with vasoline and
the area where it slides in. Apply generously.
Use vasoline not pressure grease.

I use silicone sealer on those O-rings. It aids in assembly and once dry it fills in the pits and helps it seal.
