Wore my forbiddin' shoes tonight

I bought these about 20 years ago.
A guy had bought out all the stock from an old general store in North Dakota and was selling it off.
He told me then that the store had stopped selling shoes about 60 years ago so they're pretty old.
Anyway, they are "Railroaders" according to the logo inside. Beautiful, old school shoes. Leather soles with cool brass nails, double/double stitching every where and just a nice pair like my grand dad might have bought back in the day.
I don't wear them too often and only when I won't put them at risk in any way.
No rain or snow, etc.
I went to look at a job tonight.
Not a big job. Maybe a week's work.
That's why I wore these.
I wear them for bidding jobs and such.
My forbiddin' shoes...

Really nice! A very rare and special find. I would treat them the same. So you oil them or anything?

Just a guess. The two rivits on the arch of your foot. Bet those are there to tell you where the step on a ladder is or to lock into the stirrups on a saddle? Any other guesses. Take good care of those. What size are they. Just wax with neutral Kiwi. Anything else will discolor them.

That look is coming back, see adds for them when I read my news app. Roll up about a 1? cuff on your pants and change your handle to Hipster, you are back in style even though you never left.

(quoted from post at 04:33:32 10/24/19) Wish they made good boots like that today that did not cost $200+.

Funny story, my Dad just bought a cheap $20 pair of Walmart work boots out of desperation because his old Redwings had finally given up the ghost and new ones were $250. Says they are the most comfortable pair of work boots he's ever had out of the box.

They might not last 20 years but he doesn't figure he will either. If he does he'll be wearing sneakers by then. Even if he has to buy a new pair every couple of years, he'll be money ahead.
