Case 310G maintenance

I bought an old Case 310G this past weekend, got a great deal on her too, $800 and just need to adjust the brakes, adjust a track, and mess with the carb a bit! She has been sitting for a couple years so I'm planning on doing some maintenance. I'm looking at doing a carb rebuilt, fuel filter, plugs, wires, oil change, check all other fluid levels and lube everything that has a fitting. It also came with the service manual, operators manual, and parts catalog. Anything else I should replace/tune up before putting her back into service?

If it hasn't been started, (but probably has), crack loose all the oil drain plugs, try to get any water out, then close the plugs.

Get it running and going through the motions before investing in new oil. That way if there is a problem, and something needs to come apart, you don't loose your new oil, or have to deal with trying to keep it clean.

Check the air cleaner. If it's an oil bath, there is probably a wire mesh inside the canister that needs to be periodically taken out and cleaned.

Look everything over under the dash, hidden places for mouse chewing, nests, damaged wiring, hoses, etc.

Your service manual should walk you through more than we can list here, spend some time with it, it will be a wise investment.

Look inside the gas tank, take a fuel sample. If the tank is dirty, water, rust flaking, it needs to be dealt with before connecting a clean carb to it.

You have to run a specific oil in the rear end on those to keep the steering clutches and brakes working. I'm not sure what it is tho. Go down to the case forum and ask there they will know.

You need mineral oil in the rear end. NAPA has it in the US. I was not able to find it in Canada. Good thing we're only half an hour to the border.

They do not have STEERING CLUTCHES just steering brakes . Neat little glorifies garden tractor on tracks with a whoppen 27 Hp. I know as i owned one brand new with a angle blade three point hitch and PTO . Mowed gas line wright away for Tennaco one year with it 4 lines 97 miles each along with a 430 wheel tractor mowed hill sides so steep at times dirt bikes could not go up them and the 310 had a total lack of Hp. that on some of the hills you could only mow down them and ya had to shut the brush hog off to go back up them . Ya want a ride of a life time slide one of them off a hill with the tracks locked , yea that was fun .

I would strongly suggest you jack the back end up and check for any play on your final drives. if they are full of oil and they seem solid then that's a real big plus. do the same on the front idlers. make sure there is no play and then grease them well. mineral oil like the fellow said is the only oil you can use if you want your brakes to work properly. to bad they didn't make a reverser for them. good little machine but just remember to use it for what its made for and it will last you along time. good luck.
