Getting better

I had an appointment with my VA Pulmonogist last week. I told her I have been doing great and even able to do a 1/2 mile walk with my wife each morning. My O2 level was 97 which is great, but when I did the walk which was supposed to be 6 minutes, it dropped to 92 after only 2 rounds. This week the oxygen company came and took my portable oxygen concentrator (which was too big anyway (weighs 14 lbs) and too bulky to carry in the cab of the tractor behind the seat easily. The guy changed it out to tanks which I believe will be much better to take on the tractor with the cab. He left the big concentrator that I use at night so all is good for now. She was surprised at my improvement since there is supposed to be not much return once you get to the stage 3 or 4 COPD like I was. Keith

Are you on inhalers? They changed me to Trelegy and the cost for next year is going to be prohibitive for me to purchase it. The insurance lady said all medicines have taken a sharp rise. My O2 level is at 94 without any oxygen tanks yet. Work just as much but when changing a rear tractor tire the other day I have to slow down and catch up.

Glad to hear you're improving. What about those portable "oxygen concentrators" that you see on TV all the time?

Yes, they have me on Symbicort, Spiriva, and albuterol inhalers and breathing treatments. Been fighting it for over 7 years now. Quit smoking almost 7 years ago but the 50+years of smoking and welding did me in

I was prescribed 02 for 24/7 and VA won't give the little ones for 24/7 use, only the larger ones with longer battery life and will plug into D.C. as well as A.C. I put a lot of miles on it while I needed it so much. Even took it to Boston and walked part of the Paul Revere walk. I made it to the Old North church before turning back. LOL

Paul Revere walk should be done on horseback- more authentic, and you'd have got further! lol

That"s the Inogen company...cost 3 grand new. I bought a used one, private treaty. Just went thru hell trying to get it fixed, since I didn"t buy direct from Inogen. Unit sat in their TX repair shop for a month, I didn"t get the same unit back...they didn"t send the $250 battery or carry strap back...I called, lady in CA says she"ll send me a new battery and strap...then TX bills me for it. Absolutely worst company ever. Company in CA, call center in Ohio, warehouse/repair in TX. Super persistent sales people....annoying!

Get your physician to prescribe liquid O2. It's 99.5% pure vs. the 90-95% you are getting now. He may be reluctant due to Gov't reimbursements.
I sold it for 37 years.

Liquid o2 is 99.5% pure vs. the 90-95% purity you are getting now. Tell Doc you want to GOOD stuff..
Gov't sends the cheapest thing they can find.

Keith: I am glad your felling better. When you have a battle like your facing, you have to take any win you can get.
