Case tractor Question

So please tell me the good and bad - pros and cons on A Case 1070 with the power shift transmission. See some for sale locally and thinking about get one for some
more HP. How well do they star I. The summer and and winter - cold?

The 70 series cases are some of the most under rated tractors around ive got a 1370 and two 1070s and use them hard with little problems. I leave one 1070 out in the middle of nowhere all winter to feed cows about 20 miles from home and it will start any day that its over -20. For the money they are great in my opinion.

They were good starting tractors if everything in the engine is up to par. If in cold climate, I suggest a 110V block heater. Many had a ether start kit installed on them. Canister located behind grill screen. You need to check the usual things reguarding the motor, and need to operate the tractor in all ranges and power shift gears. When depressing the clutch/inching pedal, the tractor needs to surge for a moment. This surge is stopping the PS unit so the 4spd. manual portion of trans can be shifted. The PS shifts should be crisp and not labor the engine when shifting. In reverse you will notice a high pitched wine which is normal. Like all PS tractors, in cold weather it is advised to let the tractor warm a bit before using, so the trans oil is flowing properly.

Make sure the transmission is good when you get it and only use case hytran in it and they are excellent. The worst thing you can do is use any other oil. That does not mean you have to worry about cross contamination with other tractors tho. And read and understand about not leaving the power shift in reverse while doing stationary PTO work like manure pumping or blowing silage. Backing up while using the PTO does not hurt them as some will say. Also check for water in the oil, they are getting up to 50 years old and if they are original the o-rings on the sleeves can leak antifreeze into the oil. Again that is no worse than any other brand.

As said, they are some of the most under rated and fuel efficient tractors out there. And if they are in good shape will start in most any weather.
