What would a 6V generator unregulated output be. If you can charge an 8V, can you stretch one enough for a small 12V with no lights? I just do not like the looks of an alternator on a 1954 tractor, and I am not spending the money to turn the 6V into a 12V.

I suspect you can.

Never tried it but if it has a regulator (not just a cut out) it could probably be adjusted up to the 12v range. Either a stronger spring or bend the tab, adjust the screw, however it is made, to raise the field contacts to open at around 12.5v.

As long as it wasn't loaded down with accessories, had a healthy battery, and was kept fully charged with a tender, I don't see why it wouldn't work. What would kill it would be trying to bring up a discharged or bad battery.

If it didn't work, you can always go with a 12v generator and regulator. But the only advantage will be keeping the original look and possibly a tach drive. It certainly won't save money or frustration!

I have a farmall B with no lights & a magneto with a 12 volt battery & 6 volt generator. I wired in a diode instead of a cut out. It charges about 5 amps.

I had a 6 volt generator rebuilt to 12 volt for my Jubilee, been working fine several years. There is a shop that rebuilds generators, starters and alternators, close to here ( North Central Indiana)guy picks up and delivers every Tuesday at local parts stores and dealers. Very reasonable.

Now I am wondering if I can just wire a 12V regulator to it. I know that a 12V $20.00 lawn mower battery will start a Super C with no problem at all.

A neighbor put a 12 volt regulator on 6 volt generator on a Super A as well as a Super C. He ran them that way for years. No load on them but ignition and what it took right after engine start. This was when you could get good voltage regulators (about 25 years ago).
