Just burned my CIH 8465A (5X6) to the ground, baled with it for six years, pickup bearings, saved tractor but couldn?t get bale dumped in time. So now looking for another round baler. Wanted to hear opinions/recommendations. Will be powered by IH 1086 or 806 in emergency a 756. Preferably a similar used model.

Vermeer. I have had several brands and the best over all has been Vermeer. For ease of use, bale quality, repairs, parts availability. Model depends on needs and budget. Numbers tell bale size on most models. 604 is 6 x 4 bale, 605 is 5 x 6 bale. There are others, with 4 numbers which I think are less expensive balers. The latter at the end is the series, which denotes the age they started with, I think a 605A up to now is an N. I have a 604L which makes a 4 x 6 bale and it is about a 2000 model.

You can't go wrong with JD or Vermeer, if you can hold off another month or two balers get a lot cheaper in the winter time. The monitor on that baler that burned is in high demand as it will work on the CIH or Hesston auto balers.

I burned my Heston 565 up one year. Next year same field set my 8465 on fire. Same monitor. What do you have for dealer support? The New Holland 660 world out dump the 8465. I like the JD567. Pulled it with a 826 hydro in a pinch.

Honestly it's like asking Chevy, Ford, or Dodge. Everyone has their favorite. Certain ones will do certain things, like corn stalks, balage, etc... better. But for normal grass hay, they'll all get the job done.

Lots of good used machines out there from all of the manufacturers, big thing is how they were treated.

I have a BR780a I purchased used with 20 000+ bales showing on the monitor but it also came with the paperwork and receipts showing that most every chain and bearing had been replaced, pick up rebuilt etc, within the past 1500 bales.

I know of others with the same machine that do nothing but curse and swear about them.

I do about 1000 bales every year and other than keeping up on regular maintenance it has treated me well.

5x6 with bale command net and twine option.

Using the net wrap in a good swath I average 50 bales an hour.

My old Vermeer 605h a good day was a 20 bale average.

Well myself i like the Krone baler , they are simple they have fewer moving part and they get the job done . Had i had the extra money at the time i would have been the Krone dealer , But i talked my buddy into it as he had the money to start. In turn i sold a new Krone to all of my friends . My one friend put a lot of hay thru his each year and only one break down in ten years where the main drive sprocket weld failed after what Vernon told me not bad for over 52000 bales , yes pick up teeth were replaced like on any other baler . That one was a KR 125 , his brother has a KR 130 and sofar in the 20 plus years he has had that i have replaced one bearing because he forgot to grease it and the usual pick up teeth every year before third and forth cuttings . They are not fussy on the crop being baled they just go make a bale .
