60 Years Ago Today

I don't think I've posted this link here yet. 60 years ago today my dad brought the 52 Mercury home so I put together a video of some of the
still photos taken over the ten years that it hauled us around. A bit of driving video included of course. I meant to take it for a short spin
today but other jobs came up and then the sun was down so..
60 Years With The Mercury

Thanks. I have a pal that has 8 old chicken barns full of cars. He has at least 4 of those Mercs. 1 is a cherry original, with all the options. I will try and find the picture. Good on ya !

Great! Looking forward to seeing pictures Bob. I really am crazy about those 52-53 Mercs.

(quoted from post at 18:36:57 10/16/19) Very cool piece of history for your family. What all did you have to do to it to get it back on the road?
My brother had overhauled the engine about 1980 so it was good except for a few stuck valves I had to loosen up. All the brake cylinders and some of the lines needed replacing. The old Mercomatic needed a little oil top up to get it moving again. Gas tank was beyond repair so I run it on a plastic boat tank in the trunk. Water pumps and lower hoses. Plus a little sheet metal in to cover the holes in the floor.

Fast Farmall ..... I remember those ads for the Turnpike Cruiser on the Ed Sullivan "really big shew" .... ha !!! Was it not referred to in the ads as the "Dream Car" or some such name?

Enjoy your video, I had a 53 2 door 60 years ago, I was 17 years old, traded my brother-in-law a 50 dodge for it, back quarter panels were rusted out bad, came from Detroit, went to junk yard cut them off a junk car under chrome strip and buddy brazed back on. Farmer I worked for painted it for me as a Graduation present. had it till I came home on my first leave from Air Force and sold it. Gene

Rear quarters have a few holes on this one too. Rockers are nearly gone. I replaced one front fender already and have another one ready to bolt on this winter.

Your video brings me back to the 50's when we had a 49 Plymouth.
Dad traded it off in 1962 so it's long gone but I wish I had that car for nostalgia. When my sis and I were little our booster seats were step stools we sat on in the back seat. The safety police today would have a heart attack if they saw little kids sitting on step stools in the back seat.

Nice Rusty. Great what you have done with the old Merc, but I must add, 'really great gravel roads, there!".

Thanks, most of our roads are pretty fair here. Even the pavement but then I don't often get on it with the Merc. Still got a couple of weeks before the registration expires so I might get out there for a highway run.
