if you zoom in on the second photo you can see the eagle taking off in front of the truck.

We gots lots of both. Our 'bandits' are too smart to get hit on the road ( but smart enough to wake me up at night going through the recycle bin - the get treated to the paintball gun). Saw 4 eagles circling in front of my place about an hour ago. Just doing their territorial 'dance'. Kool !

Very cool! I saw the first ones by my house a year or so ago. First one was teaching its youngin how to hunt. The youngster caught himself a rabbit and was in the field eating away until a car scared them off. This year we had a nest ( biggest nest I've ever seen) of Osprey about 1/2 mile south of me with 3 young. I watched them grow up all summer and learn to fly. They must be gone now cuz I haven't seen them in the last month or so. Those big raptors are amazing birds.

Eagles eat far more dead animals/fish than live ones.
You ought to see them ?fish? in The Mississippi below the locks and dams!!!
Lots of dead fish there.

Eagles pick a lot of dead fish out of the lake in front of our house, and occasionally drop one in our yard. I think if the're unsure about getting over the trees they drop their load. I tell people I'm such a bad fisherman they feel sorry for me and share their catch!

Neat, glennster.

It is pretty cool to see them fairly close. I have tried twice to sneak up on one in our yard out behind our barn, for photos... I could not get very close at all, before it took flight. Which is also pretty cool to see.

Almost 30 years ago when I lived on the beach 1Km. from here. I watched an Eagle flapping/ swimming towards shore. He/she started at least 1km from shore - took about 1/2 hour. Landed across the bay from me (1/2 km) on a solid rock shore. I had gotten my binocks by then - no camera. He shook his feet and dropped what I would guess to be an 8#+ salmon. Crows came and hassled (their job), anyhoo he/she shook most off the water (after a 1km. swim dragging a fish), picked up said fish and flew off with crows chasing. Before the time of 'smart phones' or smart Bob's. Had to be there.

Lightning struck this tree several years ago,was getting ready to cut it down. Got my big husquvarna out, looked up seen this beautiful pair up there.its been summer roost for 5 years.sadly the biggest brach broke off in last weeks hard winds.
In last 4 years my neighbors have spotted about 20 pairs.
And now we got eagles here comes those wind towers. I see in my mind dead eagles which raises concern, however not a %$# soul seems to care when ive shown the photos of them thick in wind tower areas, the fish and game commision, migratory bird commision,mo game commision. They said its a COMPROMISE???im like really we spent a fortune saving them but this bs can kill em n its ok?

We have a raptor nest box built on top of a building at work, overlooking Lake Michigan. We have spotted an eagle in the trees and fishing in the lake, but not yet moved into the nest box. There are a couple pairs on the river just inland from the lake at St. Joe, just north of us, we're hoping they multiply and spread.

The current generation of eagles is just like the current generation of kids (that we so often flame here on the forum) ..... they can't do anything for themselves anymore. Totally useless unlike their forefathers. I remember years ago when an eagle who ate roadkill would be an embarrassment to the flock, nowadays they have no pride, just hang around roadsides waiting for something to be handed to them on a plate ... or on the asphalt. Ask one of them to go out and spot a field gopher from 300' up and dive-bomb it for supper ..... no way .... they prefer highway fast food instead. Durned birds anyways ..... LOL !!!

we getting them kinda regular now just 1/2 mile or so down road and have even had in front of house, they roosting on top of the dumpsters that are full of dead hogs from all confinement buildings in area. death loss in those buildings is really outrageous. must not mean anything to the owners, about every two days the dumpsters will be full and that's just one location. they look like old sows they loosing them at that age also.

The very first bald eagle I ever saw was carrying a 1.1/2-2" dia. piece of fire wood he must of pilfered off somebody's wood pile. No wonder thieving has gotten so bad in this country...our very own national emblem! Where does it end?!

We've lived here for 30 or so years and never seen eagles until the past several years. We usually have a couple sightings a year now. We're not all that far from St. Joe/Benton Harbor area. at least not that far as the...er eagle flies? So maybe their the same ones K effective mentioned.

I've heard that Benjamin Franklin preferred the turkey over the bald eagle as our national bird. Back in the reel to reel days I had a tape recording of some radio comedy troupe acting out the first thanks giving were there's a mix up and the wrong bird got served. Absolutely hilarious. Wish I could remember who it was.
