Need some advice. Was disking the other day and tractor slowly came to a stop. No smell of burnt clutch. Tractor will only creep in 1st low gear & reverse. Tried adjusting clutch, transmission brake and TA with no luck. Split tractor to find clutch barely worn. Steering, 3 pt., & rear hydraulics all work fine. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome Gbarrow!

Look the center hub of the clutch disc over carefully. It could be broken and spinning inside the disc.

Did the pedal feel normal? If it was weak, easier to push than normal, possibly something in the pressure plate broke.

Something you could try, lock the brakes down, be sure the back half of the tractor is securely supported. Slip the clutch disc on the input shaft, put the transmission in a high gear.

Try to turn the input shaft by hand turning the clutch disc. It may take some muscle power, but you should be able to recreate the problem.

If the tractor has had a bad TA, and the MCV direct clutch pressure, or front clutch in the TA, might be at fault. Jim

Hi was the T/A working in both HI and LO before the problem?
I looked in caseih.com parts for IH 826 and it has the hydraulic T/A which means that if you loose hydraulic pressure to the HI T/A side the tractor will stop if the sprag clutch is not working on the LO side
of T/A.

Hello, I am Gbarrow's brother and we have been working on this tractor off and on when we can. Sorry for not getting back to yall sooner. Currently have the tractor back together and checked our adjustments once again in case we missed something, all good. We are not sure if the T/A worked in both HI and LO, was always told to keep it in the LO side and never needed it. Tractor will sometimes move forward or reverse in 1st low gear on LO T/A, if you pull the T/A back to HI it will move a little faster but not in any other gear but low 1st. We have great power steering, 3 pt, rear hydraulics, and PTO. Was told to removed 5/8 plug on rear of MCV and crank engine over or start engine till I got good fluid to come out to prime the MCV, any thoughts on this? Also have read overfilling hydraulics to help prime.

Thanks
