A different concern with fuel economy

I have posted about tuning my truck to get better performance and hopefully better mileage.

I spent the day on Table Rock Lake, my boats sweet spot is about 3500 RPM, and 35 MPH, checked the fuel flow and right at 10 GPH, which makes it about 3.5 MPG.

Now that is a way to burn fuel, but helps me unwind, feeling better already.

I have a 25 gallon tank, so I have to plan fuel stops on the lake, did about 70 miles today.

Here is my little outfit pulling in.

Boat is 15 years old, 138 hours, truck is 4 years 110K, guess we can tell what gets used the most.

Used to ski on the Mississippi river in the early 1960s. Uncle's boat had twin inboard motors. I do not remember what they were but I remember him using 100 gallon of gas in an afternoon. One thing though that boat would get you up and skiing darn fast. LOL

Glad your having a good time.

A friend of my daughter has a boat with two 327 chevy's, she says that burns a lot of gas,but haul's about 10 people on it!

It seems the 305 hurts efficiency wise (BSFC) when asked to perform at more than a modest power level. I think it has to do with a mis-match between bore diameter and chamber shape.

You must of caused a national gas shortage as all the local stations raised prices around 17 cents a gallon last night ! lol.

I too loved to water ski. Also had a swimming pool. You are happy to have both and even happier when you get rid of them.

Boats and pools are money pits.

Fuel economy depends upon speed. Do an experiment. Measure fuel consumption rate at 10, 20 and 30 mph.
It'll be interesting to see how the law of fluid dynamics work in the real world.

I have not had my boat in the water since 2004 its parked in the back of my quonset hut... I have managed to pack that hut full trapping my boat my plans are to unpack get the boat to the front get boat operational and use it again soon...

Kids collage, work, life in general etc were a set back.. I can tell ya I enjoyed that boat until everyone else got one then it became a fight to get it into the water at the local lakes...

As I coast down in life that boat will float again soon... :) If you enjoy it go for it... My boats sweet spot is 4/4500 RPM 45 MPH 4.5 gal a hr. if you want to go thru fuel 6000 RPM 63 MPH but you get there fast...

Weights what gets ya...

I guess it is a swap out, here in my part of Tennessee it fell 15 cents a gallon late yesterday .

My brother had a Marionette 37 foot with 2 440 chryslers .5 miles per gallon with throttles to the dash (about 22mph), and .75mpg at flank speed (about 18 mph) One could feel the boat lighten as it was bounding over the main as it used fuel. Jim

Where I fish I am often 20 to 40 miles from the nearest light pole or street so I know better than to leave the dock with anything less than a full tank.

40 miles out is about my limit on my 18 gallon tank with my 70 hp 4 stroke.

My sweet spot is about 7 mpg and WOT is about 5 mpg.

My wife insists that I get a boat that could never be tipped if I was drunk . That is a bigger boat than I can afford.

What kind of mileage do you get with your truck when pulling that boat? I have a 17 1/2 Alumacraft deep V 95 inches wide. Pulling it with an Ecoboost 2017 F150 I get between 13 and 14.
