We dug our small garden patch a couple weeks ago. Just 21 hills. It's a good thing there are only two of us. We are going to be buying potatoes before Christmas.

Last time i pulled a tater digger like that was behind and Oliver O C 6 crawler in 57 or 58 , the next year the hoard of people with tater forks and bushel were gone and the new age came into play with the tater Harvester . The bushel baskets gave way to trucks and wagons and now it was one person on flat ground driving the tractor pulling the harvester and two guys on the back and five women on the grading and sorting side and up to eight people either driving the trucks and tractors and wagons and 2 guys at the storage . When we got in the hilly fields we had to add a second tractor or crawler to help pull the harvester due to the size of tractors back then and a tuggem tractor for the trucks and tractors with wagons . Not till 63 did we have a tractor big enough to pull the harvester on it's own .

I dug my small patch with front loader. I have the best luck growing red tatters. Next year I'm going to experiment using a small tarp. Cut holes in it and plant tatters in holes. Don't care about tarp. May clean it off with loader before I dig them up.
I'll admit, my carpet idea was a bust. Good thing I had a loader to remove it.

I took some sweet corn to a neighbor last weekend. He thanked me with a bunch of carrots and one hill of red potatoes. That one hill was a half of a 5 gallon bucket! I know I got the best of that deal! He has about 20 feet of row to dig yet.
