have a small cut in plastic fuel tank, I can feel a small edge where some hit (do not know what it was) in a upward motion a small cut. Has any one every used heat to fix a hole in a plastic fuel tank

You can buy a plastic welder (kind of like a soldering iron) and plastic "rod" to make such repairs- I suppose Harbor Freight has them, they seem to have everything else.

I know that there is plastic welding outfits out there , also one called Bondic that uses infrared
someone will be a long with a better answer I'm sure

couple of years ago someone posted on this site using a soldering iron and weedeater string.
I tried on one of my tanks but the crack was too large.

I've had good luck using a small soldering iron to weld them. If you need to add material, it needs to be the same as what you are welding. I've added a five gallon bucket scrap to a gas tan with success. It's even better if you can find a sliver you can cut off the tank and use for rod if you need it. Make sure the iron is clean of flux and solder.

I repaired this solar lamp after I slipped on frost and fell on it. I'd recommend the bondic kit.

I blew up a gas tank once.

Now when I see somebody using heat on a fuel tank, I stand about 100 yards away with my fingers in my ears.

That being said, I once had good luck using JB Weld on a plastic gas tank on a garden tractor.

I have welded many metal tanks before. Purged with argon with a O2 sensor on the purge outlet. Still scary, but safe when done properly. A shop I used to work at had a plastic welding department, pretty easy to do with the proper equipment (hard to make look REALLY nice). If you can just fuse the crack out should be easy to do with a soldering iron. If you have a extra tip for the iron you could grind it into a tip shape with smooth edges. If you have to add filler you will need to know the exact type of plastic.
