I took my son and his buddy to the fair yesterday. They are nine. My daughter and her friend were already there with my wife, they being 14 spent a bit of the time with the animals and then the midway rides.
But the boys were pretty excited about the Tractors ....when they weren?t eating.
Mid Island Vintage Tractor Association had a nice little collection, plus there were small engines, a threshing machine demo, antique chain saws and the logger sports.
First thing going on was the Tractor Pull.
Here are some pictures ... maybe someone can tell us something about the big engine on the trailer. It has a 12 belt sheave on it... I assume this was used in a mine or forestry.

I posted my reply (below here) in the wrong place ..... so here it is in the correct place ....

Nice photos and a good show by the looks of it. What I like even more though is the fact that a couple of youngsters had more fun there than they would have doing almost anything else ..... like turning the clock back a number of decades when kids lived simpler lives.

806 wheatland with cab,i owned 1 witout a cab. The 2 stack john deere looks mean.
Bet that cub drives screwy looks like right wheel is kinda off to the side.
Glad the kids enjoyed, keep them interested

What was interesting was the 806 had 2 pulls. Actually i think they all did and switched up the drivers.
One guy did a run and made it about 2/3 down the track before he stopped. Then a different guy drove the 806, the dude with the big beard and hat in the other picture. He took it all the way down the track to the end...operators are a factor in these pulls.

My boy Jack, blond one, really liked the pulls he told me we need to bring Justin down next year...as in Just-In-Case... the 4490. Ill post a pic of that later.

I must say I was surprised at how much time those two wanted to spend down looking at all the equipment. It was great that as soon as we got there the pull was on, but then we did the barns and had some food. I asked what they wanted to do next ... go back down and look at the equipment and tractors.

We did finish the night off with a few rides and games in the midway...and some mini doughnuts and ice cream for the ride home.

It was a good night, even my daughter wanted more time in the barns before they locked them down.

Your post reminded me of my best friend and his dad in the late 50's. The old guy was a WWII Canadian Air Force veteran and every year, when there was an air show here, I would tag along with my buddy and his dad. Seeing some of those planes always made me think of WWII fighter pilots and Spitfires and all that stuff, sort of a mystery to a young lad. Anyways, I'm glad to see those boys take an interest, they are throwbacks to another time.

It is very unusual for a tractor to pull twice in the same class even with two different drivers. It is very common however for nearly every driver to pull his tractor in two different weight classes and sometimes two different guys will pull the same tractor in two different classes. Chances are that the guy with the beard that went a lot further had 500 more lbs on the tractor than the other guy did earlier.

Thanks for taking the time to share your photos.......:)

I recognize many of the Tractors.....owned and operated them here in the Dawson Creek BC area...

I used to leave Kamloops BC on my Goldwing....ended up at my Sisters on Gabriola Island for a few days........
