6.7 Powerstroke sound

I have a 2010 6.7 Powerstroke B20 that when I shut it off there is a whirl or turning sound that seems to be coming from the right side (passenger) of the engine. I notice the fan spinning and I hear what I believe to be solenoids popping making a sort of air sound. Are these normal noises or a sign of a problem?

That would likely be the def pump cleaning itself out so it don't freeze. Takes just a bit to pump dry. You would hear it at start up pumping up too, but you are getting in rather than out then so you miss it.

I will second Jon on that it is the DEF pump emptying the system so it does not freeze in cold weather.

My 2105 makes a chirping sound after shutdown. One chip, which was found to be a activator with a diaphram on the top-right side of the engine. Can't recall its proper name. Ford says its normal. Can be reproduced by disconnecting and reconnecting battery.

It's most likely the EGR solenoid cycling. The DEF pump is in the rear of the truck, behind the fuel tank.

Sure it is not a turbo. Mine does not have def or erg on it. It could be the fuel pump still wound up from pumping all that fuel to that fuel starved engine.
