How to determine if mower bar is 7/16 or 1/2 etc.

Overhauling my son's Massey Ferguson 31 hay mower sickle bar. It needs lots of new rock gaurds and the price difference in gaurds for 7/16" bar is $13.74 each and $8.30 for 1/2" bar. I'm more concerned with getting the correct gaurds for what my bar really is. How do you determine whether it is a 7/16" or 1/2" or etc.as appropriate? Thanks for any enlightenment. Thanks Holtby

Take a 1/2" wrench and see if your bar is that thick, most are.

Or take a 7/16 wrench and see if you have to hammer it on.(LOL)

Simple way to measure parts that don?t need to be measured to a thousandth of an inch it?s accurate and quick .

Well its kinda like the fellow that measured his two horses to be able to tell them apart,turns out the black one was 2" taller than the white one.
