Beater on JD 780 Manure Spreader

Hi folks. I'm buying a nice JD 780 hydra-push politician but the owner says it needs a beater. According to him, its rusted out and is out of balance. I havent seen it run, but the rest of the machine is in great shape and its really cheap. Could a guy find a used one thats decent? Build one? A new one is $2300 if JD has one on a shelf somewhere. There has to be a spreader somehwere near NW Minnesota that has rusty sides or is otherwise out of commission. Any ideas? Emails open. Thank you! Probably gonna pull it with a Case 970.
 
That can't be the first one that rusted out on an otherwise good condition spreader, must be some outfit making aftermarket replacements for them in dairy country or a nearby welding shop that could repair it for way less than $2300?
 
Check with Pik Rite manufacturing. They bought the manufacturing rights from JD for the hydra push spreaders. The Pik Rite 790 is their version of the JD 780. A lot of the parts will interchange. I have used their lines and such. They are usually a lot cheaper than JD is on parts. Great company to work with too.

I have a new idea politician, (you gave me a chuckle with that), the beater rotted up on it so I made a new one from a pipe and 2?2 angle irons. New hub and shaft in the gearbox was the pricey part, the rest cost me 150 bucks. I should say thou the angle irons were old barn cleaner pattles, plenty of them around here. Lol. All total around 600 to make a new one. I posted pics of it on here before.
 
I was thinking about making a big square tube instead of round pipe for the main and weld even number of paddles on each side. Would be easier to get the angles and balance right.
 
Yeah, we have pretty good welding shop that could make a new one. I probably couldnt make enough time to do it myself.
