Good points? Weak points?

Jeff is looking for something newer than we currently have. Looks like it comes with a set of duals.

I'll probably upset the Ford people here but I have been told by blue people that the next series which are the Genesis tractors are the way to go. What you are looking at probably would be alright if not too many hours (>5000). Even though they are jockey's and therefore have a stake in the discussion call Burkholder Brothers down in southern PA as they jockey the late Ford tractors. They could probably tell you what you want to know in terms of what to specifically look for. Not many Ford dealer guys around any more from those days at least here to ask.

The 30 series was fair but not at the level of a CaseIH Magnum or 55 series JD. Everybody says that Ford did their homework when they came out with the Genesis tractors. Trouble was it was too late to change the fortunes of Ford NH just like the 8000 series was too late to save AC. Ford struggled mightily during the early 1980's with the automotive division needing a serious overhaul so that got most of the attention. Farm Equipment was Henry Ford's love and not so much the family that came after him.

When I worked for New Holland, we had a couple of them in our service area, and they were very rarely in the shop, and even then it was only minor stuff. The engine, if I recall correctly, is the 401, which was used since the 9000. Very dependable. The 8 speed with Dual Power is again a proven design. If it has the Funk Powershift, that is a pretty nice transmission, and again, very dependable. I've seen it used in heavy equipment, such as graders. The only weakness I can think of offhand is that the ZF front axle can be expensive to work on, but if it hasn't been abused, you shouldn't have to be in there.

I don't disagree with others that a Genesis is an even better tractor. But I would run a 30 series powershift up against a Magnum or Deere of the same vintage. A lot simply comes down to personal preference.

I?ve been a around a few when I worked for new Holland And never seen any major issues and they were old then I?d take one over a genesis any day of the week they were constantly plagued with electrical and hydraulic problems when they were popular in the area . It?s to bad ford tractors didn?t keep it together most kids don?t care near as much about tractors as cars
