To fix or not to fix

I bought a John Deere MT at an auction
last year that had been sitting in a barn
a long time I got it running but haven't
done much with it and have been trying to
sell it. It needs a few things fixed here
and there but in pretty good shape. I
went to change the oil the other day and
got some coolant out with it I'm thinking
the head gasket is bad but I'm not sure
whether it's worth it to rear into to fix
it and should I just sell it as is? I
don't mind putting some into it if I'm
going to get more out of it

It is not uncommon for the old JD two bangers to leak coolant when setting long periods of time. MY old JD "G" did it every winter. I finally would just drain it when I parked it. Filled it up in the spring when I needed it to work.

I will second just putting some stop leak in it and running it. I would not tear into it as it is worth more for parts than it is running and overhauled.

I put a new head gasket in my JD BR when I tried to start it and coolant shot out of the petcocks, this was after paint and remanufactured fenders, gasket was almost a 100$ and did the work myself, pretty much had to do it.

All stop leak I have ever heard of saw do not use in a siphon system, must have a water pump to circulate as without that will just set in a gob in bottom of radiator, without that it will not circulate to where it is needed. Now there may be some that will work in that system, I do not know, if there is please name them. That tractor does not have a water pump so most will say do not use in it.

FWIW, I can't think of anything easier to pop the head off of than a JD M. If you do decide to run it, I'd take it off and see what the problem is.

You say it worked fine so please do as I asked, give us a brand name as every thing I have seen said in big marking NO NOT USE WITHOUT A WATER PUMP, help us finding what is good for those tractors. If it will say on package DO NOT USE without water pump then I would assume they know why they say that.
